Imagine being in the universe that got the original RE4. It would mean that RE4 is actually good now.

Do you plan to do this forever

If 2,3, and CV all sucked dick what makes you think that 4 could have been good?

the original re4 that became dmc1?

resident evil is permanently cancelled due to abysmal sales, mikami never works in the industry again and as a result the evil within does not exist

Anyone using development material to use words such as "original" or "how it was supposed to be" is an idiot.

this.
theres a reason if they change direction mid-development.

I heard some weird rumors recently regarding one of the scanned Japanese art book. what is the fluid in Tyrants suspension tank?

They decided to appeal to the CoD and DMC fans instead of horror fans. Not exactly a good reason mate.

REmake and 0 both underperformed in sales. Anons like you will deny it, but Resident Evil was facing franchise fatigue at that time, with a lot of fans feeling that the survival horror formula had gotten stale.

>> No.8976716

>>8976623
COD was still a WW2 shooter, hardly known for it's high octane action.
DMC had a few fans but wasn't the huge hit it would become with 3 onward.
What the fuck are you talking about?

The resulting game was extremely good though. It's not like they radically departed from the formula of previous RE games and killed off the entire franchise with a shit product. Resident Evil simply could not have continued without changing something up.

I think I saw the same youtube essay. The issue was the gamecube didn't sell nearly as well as the ps2. Us sony ponies were getting starved and would have bought any new survival horror.

Who could have foreseen zombie horror games not selling well on a console for children.

I don't think Call of Duty players at the time were very interested in horror action. There might have been some demographic crossover but nothing major.

Would REmake and 0 have sold better on PS2? Sure, probably, but the RE formula had still gotten stale and the continuity a bit ridiculous. There’s a good reason they decided to soft reboot the series with RE4.

Lazy shittake.
Just because there is a bigger fish, doesn't mean the small ones are stale. Crapcoms greediness paid off at that time, but it could have went the Dino Crisis 3 way

Your opinion is fine, so long as you’re coming from the understanding that you’re in a small minority. RE4 is rightly considered one of the best games ever made.

explain
>small minority
This implies that RE4 was developed for the sole purpose of capturing the broadest, dumbest audience possible

>RE4 is rightly considered one of the best games ever made.
Because most people play nothing but shit games. RE4 was an average game that had the unintended consequence of killing survival horror entirely.

Survival horror as a whole was kind of a late 90s fad and it was pretty much over by the time RE4 came out. If they hadn't changed things up it'd be dead and buried right alongside Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, and Clock Tower.

>> No.8979246

you can play RE4 with a fixed camera mod and it plays great.

>> No.8979413

Would have been better if it was a unique horror IP from Capcom instead. Their own Silent Hill while RE4 can release as it was continuing the RE legacy. Capcom could have had two great horror franchises potentially while Konami would go on to have none.

Resident Evil as a series was always heavy on action. RE2 has multiple summer blockbuster style setpieces.

>RE2 has multiple summer blockbuster style setpieces.
RE2 was the beginning of the end. There's nothing wrong with action horror, it's just a shame that it killed survival horror.
