None of the build engine games are particularly good. They have neat parts but Doom and Quake run circles around them in terms of movement, level design, and arsenal
And no level design does not mean the theming of your levels, blood is good in that regard but has poor actual design and flow

Vanilla Doom 1&2 is kinda lame honestly. Haven't played Quake because it seemed to share a lot of similar issues.

Flare gun gimmick was good, but best shooter was Rise of the Triad, then Strife - cmon now

i hate that they eventually updated it and made the flare gun shittier. makes the early game a chore to play. it actually stunned them before.
