I just went through the latter few pages of the thread and don't see anything about translations....some talk about 'GCC SEX'...I think it's a safe bet that if we pick something older no one's bothered to do yet then were in the clear, and ya know what if the DO happen to do it concurrent, then there's two versions out there, we aren't exactly worse off for that other then feeling 'we could done something else complimentary'

>When he gets there.
This should probably have a narrative ellipsis at the end.
When he gets there...

Also, an ellipsis should have a space between the end and the next word (if any). You don't necessarily need to put spaces between the dots, but you can go with what looks best or what best matches the on-screen text (if any).

I see that someone mentioned it, but it didn't actually get fixed in Version 3.5 here: >>895381

If an error has supposedly been fixed but still remains in the next version, then it needs to be mentioned again. Since we're only supposed to refer to the current version and the replies to it, there would be no reasonable way for a new proofreader to know that an uncorrected error was even discussed.

>> No.897118

Well, you can ignore it either way, it's correct in the sub.

>> No.897141

Nobody would know that without you mentioning it. I'm following the rules, and I hope that you'll do the same. The point of editing in this way is to have an open discussion about what needs to be changed. Everyone should be following the same process. We need to refer to the latest version of the script ONLY and not to what you or anybody else does without the knowledge of the group.

>> No.897302

Somebody mentioned this in the last thread: Can you include time markers in future scripts? You could list the approximate time every couple of minutes, or use pastebin's highlighter function, or both. It really would improve the efficiency of editing. If people could follow along more easily while watching and listening to the raw, then they would be more likely to take the time to edit. They would also be less likely to suggest improper edits which mess with the pace of the dialogue.

>> No.898093

>I'll try putting time tags next project, but the only person it really benefits is Abunai
Speaking from an editing standpoint, it would definitely benefit me. If I can only find small chunks of time to edit, it would be very helpful to be able to jump right to a certain spot in the raw episode to hear exactly how a specific line or section is spoken. Otherwise, I would have to do a lot of clumsy searching. Time tags would greatly improve my efficiency, especially for longer scripts.

You guys did a great job. I really feel like it’s almost at the level of SA’s work. I just want to point out a handful of errors to get them out in the open now. >and cleared away the grudge he feels for having died at Dan-no-ura.
This correction was made by Kakaricho without discussion after Version 1.0. That may be why Abunai missed it.

Any other errors are minor. Overall, the quality of the final product is quite good.

>> No.900131

This one I really missed, didn't even see no one talking about it.

About the other errors. I'm sorry. I just change on the sub what Kakaricho confirms that it's wrong in his post, bigger changes like whole phrases totally passed by me.

>> No.900174

Some changes were made after several levels of discussion chaining back to the current version of the script. Those can be a little hard to follow. Are there any adjustments to the editing process that you'd like to make?

The most accurate way to do things would include not starting work on the subtitles at all until the final version of the script is done, but I understand that you might want to get started on them at an earlier time.

>> No.900179

Nah, it can go as it is. I'm just gonna start comparing the FINAL script with mine before releasing it, that way I won't miss anything.

>> No.900186

Great! Don't be afraid to ask questions in the threads at any point in the process. I'm happy to help clarify any corrections, and I'm sure that our other editors will do the same.

This error appeared in Version 3.0 and slipped through a few levels of checks, probably because it was assumed to have been fixed. It really is weird sometimes. IIRC, I blew through Yoshi's Island in under three hours, and I just now beat the original Mega Man in under an hour. I also played DKC2 all the way up to the middle of the fifth world in the time it took me to watch the Donkey Kong Country episodes, and I'd probably need less than 2 more hours to beat it from there.

>> No.900679

The video I watched was interesting. He used a in-game glitch that from the Deku Tree he teleports to when Ganon is beaten in the castle.

>> No.900682

OoT is a broken game that's for sure. Wrong warping is funny to do though.

>> No.900693

Yeah, there's a bundle of fun shit you can do, even without tool-assisting (read: using emulators for frame-perfect timing and "clairvoyance").

There's a simple glitch in Yoshi's Island that allows you to skip stages like a motherfucker and finish the game in roughly six minutes (although I think you need to take apart your controller for it to work on a console, since you need to press up and down at the same time): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dKis1uusXY

I always wondered what would happen if Arino knew of a glitch similar to that and pulled it off. They'd probably just go "OK, now beat the game regularly", but if he pulled it out close to the end when it became clear he couldn't beat the game regularly, it'd make for a great ending.

That one's 100% my fault. That section alone took me about an hour, and while people were checking I was doing some research about the Battle of Dan-no-Ura. I later found out Kagekiyo died there (along with the entire Heike clan), and made that edit, but forgot to post about it.

I was wondering if when were editing if you could check the timing and see if there's any unclear sections, and hold off on any actual subbing until the script is finalized, how does that sound?

About the next project, the following episodes were suggested in this thread and the last one:

First, about that MegaMan 9 Special. Since it's a Wii episode and I don't have a Wii (and thus, no legal way of seeing it) I'll have to pass on it and other Wii Channel episodes, sorry.

>Mendel Palace

Can anyone confirm if SA-GCCX is working on this?

>Tower of Druaga (DVD Special)

I don't have access to DVD Box 5, so I have to pass on this for the time being.

>Ikki (DVD Special)

I like this one. I have access to the DVD, it's about 40 minutes long (twice as long as the previous specials, but not as long as a full episode), and would be a nice bridge between the DVD specials we've done until now and the full episodes I'd like to do in the future. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about the speed so much. Even editing, supposedly the fastest part of the process, can take a solid chunk of time. Two or more hours to proofread 20 minutes of lines as carefully as possible is not unreasonable. >ellipsis rules confusing me
Even language experts get confused by them. There are several different ways to use them, and the rules have changed over time. Also, different languages have different rules.

This picture >>902608 shows the proper ways to use them at the end of a sentence or thought (when trailing off) and when starting to speak with hesitation or awkwardness.

When marking an extended pause within a sentence... they should be used like commas, attached to the preceding word and followed by a single space.

When marking an omission of part of a quote, they should be bordered by a space ... on each side.

When quoting a portion of something not occurring at the start of the quoted material, "...you should attach them to the first word quoted." You'll often see this usage on television news programs.

Using spaces between the dots of an ellipsis is usually not necessary, but there are differing opinions about this.

TL;DR: Shit's confusing.

>> No.903097

Shouldn't quote omissions be this: [...] ? That was what I learned when I wrote a paper in school.

>> No.903108

The MLA has different recommendations for different circumstances. If brackets are necessary for clarity, then they should be used. That's more common in written material than it is in on-screen quotes.

>> No.903125

This is from Wikipedia:

>The Modern Language Association (MLA), however, used to indicate that an ellipsis must include spaces before and after each dot in all uses. If an ellipsis is meant to represent an omission, square brackets must surround the ellipsis to make it clear that there was no pause in the original quote: [ . . . ]. Currently, the MLA has removed the requirement of brackets in its style handbooks. However, some maintain that the use of brackets is still correct because it clears confusion.

>The MLA now indicates that a three-dot, spaced ellipsis ( … ) should be used for removing material from within one sentence within a quote. When crossing sentences (when the omitted text contains a period, so that omitting the end of a sentence counts), a four-dot, spaced (except for before the first dot) ellipsis (. . . . ) should be used. When ellipsis points are used in the original text, ellipsis points that are not in the original text should be distinguished by enclosing them in square brackets (e.g. "text […] text").

It looks like the rules are different when quoting text which ITSELF contained ellipses. Holy shit, this is giving me a headache.

I found numerous DVD Box set of GCCX in a little japanese goods shop in Paris. There was like 6 of them... A couple were quite cheap (20€) including the Sunsoft special, others were like 30€ or 45€. I'm very impressed by this low-priced japanese DVD, especially GGCX ones.

>> No.910116

I wanted to ask folk's opinions on some of the style choices I made, specifically:

- When Arino says "Eeeehhhhh?", I sub it like that, where as other groups use "Whhhhhaaaaaat?". Personally I don't like that (I 'hear' the stretched what in a stoner voice), but what do you think?

- When he's gasping and exclaiming I sub it ("Whoawhoawhoa" and "Crapcrapcrap"), what do you think of that, would you like to see it done differently?

>> No.910158

If I'm not mistaken, he's saying the word "Ee?" in those cases. Personally, I think that translating it as "Eh?" (or an elongated form) might make people think that we're actually leaving it untranslated. I think that "Huh?" or MAYBE "What?" would be better, depending on the tone and circumstances. If you do elongate either of those two, I would choose only one letter to stretch out per word. "Huhhh?" and "Huuuh?" both look fine to me. You could use whichever feels right for the line. "Whaaat?" would also be fine in certain cases.

>"Whoawhoawhoa" and "Crapcrapcrap"
These are both fine with me. He does run his exclamations together a lot, and I can't think of a better way to convey that. When "ABUNAI!" becomes "ABUNABUNABUN!" or something similar, SA usually writes "Careful! Careful! Careful!" or "Watch out! Watch out!" or whatever seems to fit the tone and level of panic. I would trust your judgment on those.

>> No.910225

>If you do elongate either of those two, I would choose only one letter to stretch out per word. "Huhhh?" and "Huuuh?" both look fine to me.

Yep, but 'like' is realitive. They're still quite popular, so for a person in the entertainment industry to not have a member they like is basically a sin.

Some Japanese people find yaeba cute...

Haruna Kojima is a really popular member, she's in magazines and TV a lot. They used her to introduce the other two, then sh was gone, ha. And given the way AKB works, those two will likely vanish in a year or two.

Quite polite, and asks him to change the channel back.

Stream changed channels halfway through. Boo. He played Megaman 2 and failed to clear it, but kept playing even as the credits rolled

I highly doubt Fuji TV (the broadcaster) will put it on the internet, even for a fee. GCCX is one of the shows satellite broadcasters use to advertise subscriptions (Broadcast Pirates do too, funnily enough).
