So what's the best scaler to get nowadays? Last time I looked at the market, there was the Framemeister, the OSSC, or various vintage linedoublers.
I have the OSSC currently, but it's not fully compatible with my plasma tv, anything above line2X will either be off center or flat out not work.
I'm looking for something that takes RGB Scart (composite/s-video input would be a bonus, my C64 can't do RGB), and outputs fully in spec 1080p signal even if that means full processing of the signal.
It would be also nice if it could do decent deinterlacing, the OSSC looks like ass with hi-res Saturn games.

picture unrelated.

Sounds good, but is there anything else which isn't $300? The OSSC was much cheaper, I was hoping that the tech would have come up since then and prices would go lower. That's almost the same price as the Framemeister.

Now's a bad time to buy the retrotink x5, they make them in batches also the chip shortage isn't helping.

Retrotink 5x is the best on the market right now, and that $300 tag is worth it especially after you upgrade to the newest firmware. It does RGB scart, s-video, composite, and component and sends a properly specc'd signal to flatscreens, and the motion adaptive deinterlacing handles PS2 480i sooooo much better than the bob deinterlacing the OSSC uses so ps2, I've got both and compared.

If you're only planning to use PS2/PS1 wait a bit, last year the retrotink guy showed off a prototype PS2/PS1 breakout cable with the RT5 chip inline, hopefully that comes out later this year with a <$100 price tag.

How does the x5 handles resolution changes? OSSC handles it as fast as my TV does (same as if I hook up the Scart cable directly to the TV), but there's still a blink while it resyncs. And that's after tweaking the options, otherwise it is a bit longer.
I remember the Framemeister taking up to 10 seconds.

>$100 per cable per console or $300 scaler that handles all inputs and has way more options

lmfao what retards buy those.

What's the best option for upscaling 15khz console video onto my 31khz vga crt? ossc

ossc only has digital out.

retrotink 5x handles it instantly, never drops the signal

why do you insist on making the games look like shit?

get a vga monitor and enjoy the tiddies like they were meant to be enjoyed

1. I have one, I also have a CRT TV
2. none of the machines I have support 31KHz VGA (except the OG Xbox, but I only have that for Panzer Dragoon Orta)
3. playing on my 42" plasma is better than playing on my 17" monitor or TV.

You sound like you know what you’re talking about, if I were looking for an upscaler primarily for laserdiscs but also occasionally some N64, is the retrotink worth it?

>> No.8935148

>>8935136
i use the 2x and rgb2comp
the latency is better than any other upscaler i have tried

however, i was using cheap shit before that (hdmi2wii, hyperkin etc)

the hyperkin genesis 2 hdmi adapter is surprisingly good, rgb, upscales, relatively low latency, kinda has a "warble" but for playing arcade pcb its acceptable and only 30$

im trying to eliminate as much lag as i can so im using all retrotink stuff and it does make a difference, whether or not you notice it or even play the types of games where it even matters is entirely up to you

>>8935148
i will say the 2x pro does suffer with deinterlacing 480 signals and they look a bit off so maybe the 5x is worth it for you

For just laserdisc and N64 you can save some money and use this composite/s-video only scaler.

Not as many options as a RT5X but it's a great starter scaler, I used this one for years.
