Do you think It would be possible to remake alucard and the sprites from SOTN like kof 12 and hope someone makes a texture pack or basically remake the game in a modern engine, basically as some fan project?

Yes, I made it years ago, but clearly my artistic and 2D and 3D skills were much much worse than now, and I've become a lot better and also tools have been developed in the last 2 years that basically make possible for me to realistically make on my own all the animation of Alucard in HD.

yeah, but my older skills and specially since that I made that sprite was much much worse, also tools that only exist since a year and half ago have been developed and made possible to create something as good as that old render with 3D.

Currently I'm waiting for the dev of pixelover to implement my request of separating each mesh in the render as a separate render pass, which would be what I need to reach a higher quality result.

pic related was a test fan art animation I made to try my 3D to pixel art workflow.

No, It was a fan art sprite I made after learning the pixel art techniques of kof 12.

Is just a pixel art paint over a render.
But my goal right now is to see if I can get a similar result with 3D model and post processing.

It think it could be possible to create such pixel art from a 3D render, specially if the dev of pixel over implement my ideas to fix the core issues with his tool that ruin the idea of being real pixel art.

well, let me put this way.
Imagine you were always inspired when you were like 20 for like kof 12 dot tutorial site.
And you were like wow, this is like magic.

But 2009 technology was very limited, so SNK bankrupted themselves with such heavy workload.
HD quality pixel art is simply not economically viable to make by hand.

But luckily 3D tech has improved, and 3D to pixel art tech has also made big leaps.
New tools have been made.

So now my old goal is very realistic.

well, I need for the dev of PO to fix the issues I just mentioned before I can make my OP pixel art.

I think is reasonable to wait a couple weeks for the new version to have the issues fixed, and in the mean time work making Alucard and other monster models.

But clearly this thread is more to shitpost about the idea than actually getting stuff made.
If I'm sucesful I'll show some results later.

Would it be possible? Of course. Would there be a point to it? Probably not. People who are fans of the 2D Castlevanias are fans of it because of the pixels, not in spite of them. At that point, you've remade a whole game that most fans will play for a few minutes, say "neat, HD," and then move on. Personally, I like SotN, but I wouldn't care to play it like this.

You really want to succeed, make an entirely new game with that sort of art but a familiar SotN style, like Bloodstained. Same amount of work but at least people won't be stuck playing through the same game they've already finished fifty times.

It's possible but do you even know how KoF12 sprites were made? They made 3D models and drew over them, rotoscope style.

but yeah that's the thing, you could make some models and trace over them in a better style but good fucking luck doing the rest of the game, it's already pretty detailed but to draw them in even higher detail would take a massive amount of work
