Other than the dithering, all other graphical differences with Saturn Resident Evil boil down to personal preference. Some people prefer the look and feel of the Saturn models over the PS1 models. And the dithering looks just fine on a CRT using composite.

Where Saturn pulls a head of the original PS1 release is the additional bonus material and that it saves significantly faster. Sure you can argue those things are minor, but that and the personal preference of the way the models look is why most who prefer the Saturn version prefer it.

Seriously, what's with all this stupid console warring lately? Why can't people have personal tastes and preferences when it comes to what version of a game they want to play?

you mean single digit fps, some games are just unplayable on the n64, grew up with a ps1, then later bought a saturn, and finally decided to buy a n64, and I have to say, what a disappointment, the n64 looks like shit compared to the ps1 and saturn, its just a big low resolution blurry mess, the sound quality is shit, couldn't find any controller with a working joystick, but the fps drops are really the worst thing about the console, makes the games unplayable, so I sold it and bought more saturn games.

Saturn warping is fundamentally different from PS1 warping. Saturn warping only happens as polygons approach the edge of the frustrum. It can be mitigated by subdividing the polygons as they get closer to the edge of the screen.

The backgrounds look better. They weren't just "ported" from the PSX too, they were taken from the source material which is made evident by how several backgrounds have details that differ from the PSX version.

The 3D models don't look "worse", they look different. IMO some look worse, some look better. They also have a lot less polygon jitter than on PSX.

Quite a lot of exclusive content, which, unlike in other versions (DS touchscreen shit, puke inducing costumes of the PC version etc) are actually excellent.

There are some bugfixes, such items that were invisible for no reason on PSX are now visible.

The Japanese Saturn version is fully uncensored. Alongside of the PC version, these are the only two version of the game which are fully uncensored.

I like the Saturn version, lack of transparencies aside. I don't think the new models are bad either, just different. I haven't checked for myself but apparently the NTSC-J version has more gore than any other release.

I just made a video going into the best versions of RE1 and REmake, Saturn is definitely a decent way to play but obviously not as accessible as the other releases. Hopefully this is useful or entertaining for someone. I love RE1, it's a beautiful game that everyone should try.

Basically just for the original Japanese difficulty and arrange mode, which is great stuff. Some people prefer the US difficulty with no auto-aim, but its one of those things they only changed so that NTSC players would have a harder time beating it as a rental. Saturn version also has this difficulty outside of Japan. Just stay away from the Dualshock Version of the Director's Cut, which has a different soundtrack. Some of it is actually good, but there are the infamously awful tracks and then other tracks which are just a downgrade.

How is that being disingenuous? The point is Saturn Resident Evil isn't a bad port and it's a perfectly acceptable version to play. You're not really missing a whole lot by playing it over the PS1 version, just as you argue that you're not missing much playing the PS1 version over the Saturn version.

Why is there this need to have these silly console wars when it comes to games that are good on both platforms?

Nice video, it was very informative and had good editing. But I must disagree wholeheartedly about recommending first time players to play Jill's campaign first in RE1. Chris's campaign is clearly the intended way to experience the game; he does the intro narration, a good chunk of the other characters dialogue is speaking to Chris or referring to him, the Chris-Wesker rivalry of future games is more clear by playing the original rather than REmake, and you only get a congratulations message by beating his campaign.

If you read about the game's development, Chris was intended to be the game's main character from some of the earliest stages and Jill would have been playable only upon beating the game. However, even in the finished product, Chris's campaign is much more representative of the dev's mission statement behind the game, that is making the player carefully consider their actions particularly when it comes to combat and inventory management.

Except it really doesn't. You don't see the same kind of texture warping all over the screen like you do on PS1. The only time you see textures distort is when large polygons approach the edge of the screen.

You are correct that neither have perspective correct polygon rendering, and neither have subpixel accuracy. But those cause different issues and are not the same as texture warping.

>> No.8930413

>>8930369
Lack of perspective correction is exactly what causes textures to warp. That's what it means by definition. You're wrong.
