The first few levels of Ecco the Dolphin give me a feeling of loneliness, especially when this track (Medusa bay) is playing:

The game really makes you feel how vast and empty the ocean is, especially for a dolphin that's lost its pod.

The gameplay itself is decent, but the EXPERIENCE is beautiful.

ok, good for you

I wish I could suffer through Ecco II like I did the first one. I kept waiting for it to get transcendental but it stayed at merely good solely because of the atmosphere. You’re right though that it’s downright beautiful, I can’t think of another game from the 4th gen like it

How far did you get? II gets pretty weird.
>>8920719
That's the intro level which is there to let you dick around and get a feel for the controls before it starts throwing challenges at you, the actual game hasn't even started yet. It starts when you take up the challenge that the one dolphin gives you.

Ecco is a very original concept for a game. They also didn't do a good job enough marketing it to sell the horror and loneliness angle. I was a SFC kid, so I just assumed it was like Barney the Dinosaur. Gay shit with a dolphin. Instead it's more akin to Alien (1979) in terms of atmosphere and dread. Almost a horror game.

I'd like a modern widescreen port, with the option of MD and CD soundtracks.

God I got stuck on one of the early levels of Ecco: Tides of Time for the longest time because I didn't know where to go. There was a big-ass jump upwards and my friend said he saw something to the left that you could reach, and I tried that forever.
All it took was a solid jump to the right.

A+ game though

>> No.8924193

>>8924168
Oh yeah that big jump was tough. I did it on Gens with the input lag, was brutal getting everything just right. Luckily I didn't have a dumbass friend giving me red herrings to chase.

The last few levels scared the shit out of me as a kid. Still unsettling. Here was an innocent looking game about exploring the ocean and you're left with an alien time travel plot
