Want to get into the world of the ZX Spectrum, I can use an ol' toaster I have and my Android Tablet for emulation (i have a BT Joypad), what emulators would you recommend for both devices?
I tried some emus but I got confused by the GUI and the controls wouldn't work after a while.

Fuse is the de facto "standard" emulator and happens to be the easiest to use as well. Get TAP or Z80 files and load them up. You can set up a virtual joystick, and then you would use the "KEMPSTON" control option in game. Otherwise a lot of games let you map the keyboard how you want. A handy thing to know is that QAOP(M / Space) is a very common default keyboard control scheme.

I'm grug for this stuff so I have some questions:
Do I need to change the model or is the defacto one good enough? saw things like 128k and +3
Can I use a Joystick on games that aren't compatible with the Kempston option? Like Chuckie Egg for example.

For models, a 48k will be fine for 95% of games, and the "plain" 128k will cover the rest. Control options depends on the game really, I can't recall what Chuckie Egg's deal is off the top of my head.

Find of list of games you want to try.
Put them on an emulator and try them.
The worst thing about emulating it is keyboard differences.

Most games made in 86 onward from major publishers have 128k support and will have less load time and actual music.

>play 3D game on speccy 48k, its a slideshow
>I know I'll run it on the newer speccy models, should be much smoother!
>none of them work
so whats the fucking point of a faster speccy?

if you're using the Spectrum to play ports of Amiga and DOS games, then you're causing your own pain. Look for games that originated on the Spectrum or were exclusive to it.

Another common one was QWERT. For whatever reason.

That's good to know, probably has been this scheme in games where I couldn't figure out the controls; also lol.

The "newer" Speccy models aren't faster, they just have more RAM, a proper sound chip, and some new BASIC commands.
