I mean they don't even make controllers with more than the standard xbox number of buttons now, because Xinput doesn't support that, while DirectInput, which does, is officially deprecated.
If you get a controller with six face buttons today, two of them will just mirror the shoulder buttons because you can't have extra buttons in Xinput.

>> No.8903382

>>8903375
True, but it's honestly enough to play the type of games you'd want to play. Like the 8bitdo M30 has 2 shoulder buttons, 6 face buttons. Which is enough for 2d games. Still waiting for that Retrobit analog saturn pad tho

The real pisser is I'm on Linux, where our controller subsystem can handle whatever. Wanna build a controller with 100 buttons and axes? Go for it, Linux don't give a fuck. But MS owns the market, so controllers are made to MS' specs, which means ecksbawks style is all you can get now.

Comix Zone is a game that might have been fun but it's just way too hard without cheat codes. The developers seem to have fallen for the "we don't want people to beat it as a rental so set the default difficulty to 'assrape' so you have to slowly claw your way through the game by starting over a million times" meme

Yeah, I'm sure there's lots of autists out there who got gud and will tell me to do the same but honestly, I'm not gonna beat my head against the wall just to master a mildly interesting game with like 30 minutes of actual gameplay.

I never understood this mentality from developers because it assumes people who finish a game never want to play it again, whereas with most people I know if they liked a game you'd replay it frequently whether you'd already beat it or not. You could beat the Sonic games in one sitting and that didn't stop anyone from buying it.

If anything, it was counterproductive. If I rented a game and wasn't able to beat it because of some cheesy difficulty level, that didn't send me running out to buy it.

>I never understood this mentality from developers

Because it's a stupid generality that's true in one case out of many, which doesn't even apply to PAL regions in which renting was a lot less developped. There is never one simple answer to everything no matter how it feels reassuring to the people believing that.
Japanese devs also believed that the general western audiance was looking for a challenge when playing games, while the general Japanese audiance was more casual. This is confirmed by simply looking at magazines from back then, a lot of reviews had a "longevity" factor in the game's overall score which was partly based on a game's difficulty (the harder it was, the better the score). Meanwhile in Japan, people complained when even a jRPG was too hard.

It's not everyones cup of tea, the combat is fun but the enemy variety (or really how you can approach them) leaves a lot to be desired. I really enjoyed the puzzles, its very unique that your 'subweapons' are limited by what surfaces and objects are around around you. The puzzles can get pretty tricky in the late game. It may be a little lean compared to something like lttp but I really digged the core concept. There sequel is definitely more fleshed out.

Just 1cc'd Castlevania Bloodlines and had a fucking blast. Awesome game. Better than SCIV in almost every way. More fast paced and arcade-y feeling with a less drab color palette. Very satisfying playing as Lecarde with the spear. The spear vault and twirl are more satisfying than they have any right to be. The difficulty feels very fair too.
