Duke Nukem Forever 2001 has been leaked online

>> No.8891836

Are people gonna call this version good because it never came out?

>> No.8891841

The devs knew it was shit, and started from scratch. Its fate was already sealed after 2003.

>> No.8893094

>The devs knew it was shit
The devs' standards were way too high, they wouldn't release it unless it was a world-beater that was more advanced and better-looking than anything else out there, a moving target which is why they kept starting over with newer, higher-res assets and shit, again and again for an embarrassing number of years.

>> No.8893104

You have it backwards.
People call it good when it's inaccessible.
Once it's accessible, the truth is revealed.

it was leaked here on the /v/ board and someone had to open their mouth up about it on twitter, so there's a 50/50 percent chance that it won't be leaked due to gearbox's lawyers.

From what I recall, they fucked up by trying to introduce some new lighting effect that wound up causing the devs to have to go through every single asset file to implement it properly. And they were just too stubborn to let it go.

Story is the higher-up were obsessed with recreating that Duke 3D release moment where they had the most advanced and impressive shooter on the market, and it just tanked development every time a game like Half Life or Doom 3 would drop.

>> No.8893415

>>8893386
And ironically, the actual DNF was far from the most advanced shooter on the market. Sure you could see your legs and had working mirrors, which were fairly uncommon in FPSes at the time, but the rest of the game looked incredibly dated.

Ran this on Windows 10 with the patches, worked fine.

Honestly George isn't kidding, this is pretty much a bunch of test levels, stuff for E3, some weapons, most of the maps I tried didn't even have any enemies but I tried the Hollywood Holocaust remake which did have some action, which was alright.

This definitely had potential but you can tell it was stuck in development hell

Oooor you could have this leaker team already working on a fully functional complete build of the game, hence the teased release in June. They leak out the original build, to garner attention and excitement, while including the source code, developer tools, a functioning multiplayer for people to dick around with, before releasing their final build of the game in June to great fanfare, plus to show the major difference between the original incomplete build and their finalized build.

But that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY
