Well, put it this way: you had a console that, for the first time, was not afraid to have a decent amount of lewd games in its library, besides the regular stuff. Obviously, compared to what people were used to, it looked like deviant heaven.
Think of all the slightly lewd anime that came out during the 90s and how many of them were basically considered adult material, despite being pretty tame compared to what we're used now. It's the historical context that sets the bar, basically.

I believe these are not actual retro magazines but rather "Used Games" magazines, later known as Gameside. This would then date it to possibly early 00's, like 2004. The format looks a lot like Gameside.

I wish all these magazines get scanned entirely because they're filled to the brim with these sorts of wonderful little things. And there's no proper "database" for any of this stuff.
