This is ridiculously good. Keeps me pumped up and hyped nonstop. Very generous health and game over system. Allows me to keep pushing and perfecting. Much prefer this to Castlevania, which I was immensely struggling with.

I loved this game as a kid, it was probably my favorite. I could never beat it then, because of a difficult jump in stage 6 (you'll know what I mean later). I revisited this game when I had access to emulators and played it a lot until I was good enough to beat it with one life. Good shit. Ninja Gaiden 2 is also very good. NG3 I've never played for more than a couple of minutes, though.

why the fuck do people use these, it's like they've heard that crt tv's have scanlines and just assume it's seeing black lines on the screen, it's so retarded
you don't see the separation betweent he scanlines on a real crt, why would you purposely obstruct your view like this on an emulator?

What's harder to complete without dying: Contra and Super C or Ninja Gaiden Trilogy? (each game individually obvious, not back-to-back with no deaths)

>> No.8883181

>>8883171
Definitely NG3 as it's literally impossible not to die in the final stage due to the time limit.

If you mean deaths you can actually avoid, NG3 would be the easiest though, then Super C and NG1 and 2 would be the hardests.

scanlines stop everything from becoming smooth gelatinous blobs on 1080p monitors (granted not-upscaling 30+ year old games also helps).
literally try playing a SNES game at high resolution without a filter and you'll see how horrific it looks, Donkey Kong Country in particular is an absolute fucking mess without a filter.

LOL RIP
I beat it for the first time three days ago, so here's some advice:
1. Bosses stay dead. There are three of them.
2. Your health will only refill for each boss if it's the FIRST time you're fighting them. In other words, don't go in if you have shit-all health. Stay along the bottom of the final area and get the hourglass item to freeze enemies and save on health.
3. Learn to down-slash in the air for rapid hits.
4. Sub-weapons will be available for the first boss you fight each time, but not the next.
5. Bosses are weak to spin-dash. You can fuck them up with this. Get it at the start of 6-3 and use the down-slash in the air to slash candles for more magic (i.e. don't waste magic).

1st boss strat: Attack the weak spot. Climb the wall to the top. Jump over boss. Repeat.
2nd boss strat: Stay at the bottom and get used to the patterns. When confident, jump on platform and slash very top of boss (higher than you'd think), then get down quickly. Repeat.
3rd boss strat: Hit head. Hit tail. Hit body. I'm shit at this one, so I just spin-dashed him - but if you're good with down-slashes in the air, he can be beaten "properly".

That's about all I got. Good luck.
OH - It's better to get hit by Jaquio's projectiles than himself. Remember that.

>>8885149
Hope this helps others, I think I beat it while you were typing this all up. The THREE bosses and getting sent back to 6-1 each time was almost, ALMOST soul-crushing. Jaquio's boss fight was honestly really enjoyable. Figuring out the patterns and tricks to the fireballs and getting little hits in was fun. FUCK the statue demon's pink balls though - 3 dmg per hit is just fucking CRUEL. It feels pretty random and I think I just had a good run on my victory attempt. All in all I got sent back twice for each boss.
All in all fucking incredible game, nervous to check out the rest.

The truth of the matter is if you're into retro gaming at all, you'd also better be into anime. These things ARE mutually exclusive. A given retro game's legitimacy is wholly dependent on how anime it is. Actually, the LESS anime it is, the more uncomfortable I am because god forbid the world doesn't revolve around anime.

this game is 11/10
making you redo 6-1 and 6-2 is part of the "die, learn, get better" mentality
eventually you can get to the final boss without being hit until you get there
now i can beat the game in under 30 minutes
im not even a speedrunner, i just perfected it from practice my own stupid way.

Clearly Jaquio's fight doesn't follow this philosophy since his forms die after you beat them just once and you won't have to redo them no matter how many times you die.

There may be a pillar or two in 7-1 and 7-2 that you need to use this on, but I'm almost sure that you can finish the game without using it. The reason I brought it up is that this is something you cannot do in NG1, and it's likely you might find yourself in a position with no other option but to use this or die, and it's not readily apparent that you can do this in game.

> The reason I brought it up is that this is something you cannot do in NG1

You can do this in NG1. It's just harder. It's probably why they made it into a proper mechanic in 2, because people were already doing that anyways.
