>so bad at precise movement I have to savescum fucking SMB
Is there any hope for me or should I stick to point and click games

>> No.8875743

you don't have to beat SMB since it's a game that tests patience, not skill

>> No.8875767

play any modern platformer, you don't have to have precise movement to do walljumps

Gen 3 platformers are all about being persistent and not giving up. SMB1 is by no means an easy game, it's actually one of the harder NES/FC platformers if you are doing warpless

>> No.8875801

>>8875792
if you think SMB is hard you haven't played enough NES games. it's in the bottom third for difficulty easily.

Maybe, I haven't played any of the obscure ones. But I still think that SMB1 is tougher than most meme stuff like Ninja Gaiden, CV1 and all Mega Man games on the system

try Adventure Island if you want some bullshit

What's harder? Adventure Island or SMB2?

SMB2 is not a hard game either, it's also in the bottom third for difficulty.

>> No.8876405

none of these are difficult except for cv3 NA

adventure island, 1943, ikari warriors (no abba), zanac, dragon quest ii are the legitimately hard games that ppl are aware of

the real hellscape is the famicom/nes games that no one knows about that are simply broken by design

reference mexican runner who has completed all nes games

>>8876405
Dragon Quest 2 is not that bad, I actually think that Mother 1 is harder. And then there is Megami Tensei, the hardest of them all, I never had enough patience to beat it. And I still consider SMB1 to be pretty tough

He took several videos to clear Ikari Warriors. That game is balls.

Actually no first party Nintendo game is particularly difficult.

mario has kind of a fucked up difficulty curve, the lakitus are a bit of a speed bump, the couple sections with bullet bills, but really it's just the hammer bro gauntlet and the last castle, in any given run you're going to get to that point and eat through the majority of your lives until you beat it.

>> No.8877750

>>8876442
I would say the early ones are difficult enough but very fair, while the average NES game is too difficult thanks to being broken and poorly designed.

SMB2USA is a lot easier than both SMB1 and SMB3 in my opinion
But also I've beaten SMB2USA a lot more than either of those games so I might just be biased.

It's not just you. SMB1 is notoriously slippery and annoying to control. Thankfully they (sort of) fixed this later on with SMB3, SMW, Land 2. If that's too hard you can always just switch to Sonic or DKC

This is a really autistic question but it bothers me for a long time so please don't mock.

Let's say you've managed to beat the game like once and had no success in all other tries after. Would you feel proud and satisfied about your single successful playthrough or you'll just feel you've simply been lucky that day?

There's particular levels that I feel like this sort of applies. I'll breeze through an intense section, then die to some dumb shit, then when I restart the level I can't pass something I already beat until like 10 tries later.

Lmao what, SMB is pure skill, and Lost Levels compounds on it. The running and jumping physics are basically unparalled on NES and are better than even vast majority of SNES platformers.

>>8875801
Clearing Super Mario Bros with no warps, no infinite lives glitch, and no continue method (A+Start) is actually harder than vast majority of NES games. And completing Super Mario Bros warpless, no death, without power-ups is literally one of the hardest things on the whole platform.

Why patience? The way I play SMB, I run through each stage as quickly as possible, only picking up powerups when needed. I only grab coins or hit blocks if I can do so while running by.

Why not skill? There are certain SMB games I haven't played in a decade. I could load up SMB1 and 1CC it in one try after not touching it for a decade. (I know this, because I literally did this last week on the Switch VC. Decided to do a run of SMB1 on a whim, beat it warpless with no continues after not playing for a decade.)

Prove it, fart huffer.

>> No.8880786

>>8880747
I mean it's not super easy, but it's also not really impressive for anyone who has experience with the game. A 1CC is basically just beating the game since it has no continues anyways aside from the A+Start cheat. Now doing it warpless, no death (and especially without powerups) would be quite brutal.

Yeah, to be fair, I did have two deaths. I did beat it warpless with no continues after not playing for 10 years.

My favorite genre is platformers, though. I'd call it moderately challenging.

This like someone who primarily plays Cave or Touhou shumps loading up a random Dreamcast or PC Enginer shmup game, of "moderate" difficulty. Yeah, after a few attempts, they will probably CC it. A lot of these skills are portable within genres.

This is a nice way of saying git gud.
