You'd probably get filtered by the genesis JRPGs if all you have played is Chrono Trigger. They're more hardcore and don't have much in terms of QoL. Sega CD however has Lunar which is pretty damn good, and has a bunch of ports.

SNES has a more variety in casual JRPGs. Super Mario RPG, Mystic Quest, FF II (USA), Lufia 2 is pretty easy.

Once you get a few under your belt you can try the Phantasy Star series and the Shin Megami Tensei series.

only good one on MD for me is phantasy star IV. not a shining force fan myself, though it has some decent action RPGs.

Everything else is subpar compared to Chrono Trigger, so you're better off just not playing anything else. CT was basically the first jrpg I ever played back in '98 on an emulator and then trying to play other stuff just feels meh. Only stuff newer than CT catches my interest, like NIS games or Ar Tonelico. I haven't been able to get into any other 16-bit JRPGs.

ignore this, there are good games on this list, but he mentioned fan game chrono trigger 2? but not radical dreamers?

and rom hacks ff5,6? play the originals first!

if you havent played chrono trigger, do it then u can shut everyone up about it, then play terranigma so u can see how superior it is

These are the two best systems to own. VAST library of games on each. The literal pinnacle of 2d gaming (Which is when it was good). Only bad part is SNES can't run NES while MD can run MS. I really, really wish SNES could run NES carts.

>MD can run MS
??? What the fuck, how come I didn't know about that, this is amazing. How is this even possible? And if SNES could run NES carts it would be the best console ever

>> No.8875431

>>8875425
>How is this even possible?
It has a Z80 based CPU (What the MS uses) on board in addition to its 68000. Unfortunately the Master System library isn't anywhere close to as amazing as NES. I agree, SNES would be fucking incredible if it could play NES.

>> No.8875441

In theory these days you could probably FPGA a NES adapter into a booster cart for the SNES. But if such a product exists, I haven't heard of it. Someone should really make that though, it'd sell a lot of units.

Fun fact: Mega Drive's Phantasy Star is just a Master System ROM in a Mega Drive cartridge, that's why there's no "Phantasy Star I Mega Drive ROM".

I didn't even know this was on Mega Drive because there wasn't a ROM for it. Why didn't they just make the slots the same? Wouldn't bringing your Master System games over be a good selling point?

Okay so I tried this but the first boss was like stupidly fucking hard to the point I was confused and unsure if I was doing it right. For the record I played, enjoyed and beat the most famous FF6-9 difficulty mods without issue so I'm not sure what was going on with 5s

>> No.8880583

I haven't played t edition but I REALLY liked Brave New World. The difficulty balance felt just about perfect and I greatly enjoyed the changes they made to magicite.
Weirdly enough I know it has a rep with weird script rewrites but either I played an older version that lacked it or I somehow missed all the really meme-y ones.
