You need to hook it up, turn on the Genesis, and run a "CABLE" channel scan on the TV. It should show up on 3 or 4. My smart TV actually asks "do you need channel 3 & 4 for a VCR?" and the answer in your case would be yes.

I went to channel 3 and it's just a black screen when I turn the system on

How do I know if my genesis is broken?

I haven't used it in more than 5 years

Plug it in here, make sure it's on Channel 4, a lot of Modern TVs have an issue with Channel 3 reliant old consoles for whatever reason.
If you haven't used it in a while, you might get black screen if the place you jam carts into is dusty or the contacts on the cart aren't clean. Clean them with a bit of iso alcohol and a qtip. Godspeed anon, hope it helps.

>> No.8865593

>>8865590
Also, make sure your little switch in that first picture is actually on Channel 4.

>> No.8865608

>>8865553

Thats a good sign, means the consoles powering on. Does it go back to static if you turn it off? As for the black screen, the genesis will display that if it can't read the cart, give it a clean and reinsert and you should be good.

>> No.8865620

>>8865536
How stupid can you be? It should be obvious which input it goes into.

>> No.8865635

>>8865608
New TVs don't show the static on analog channels, but otherwise cleaning sounds promising for this black screen situation. OP could very well already be up and running.

>> No.8865657

>>8865635

Thats a bit annoying, my smart tv puts up fake static. For op if that's the case look the power noise 'pops' when you switch the console on. If the screen flickers when you hit the switch you have power.

Huh, even my super old 17" 720p set blocks it out with a blue screen, but you see it flash for a moment before it does on that one. My newest set it is just nonexistent, but lets you specifically activate analog channels 3 and 4, which I appreciate. A lot of TVs that don't support 240p content at all will actually work fine with it over RF, if you're in a pinch.

That probably means you have it connected properly. Clean the "teeth" on your game(s) with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Rub back and forth on the horizontally, put it in the console and try again.

>> No.8866203

It really sucks that modern tvs don't have any analog inputs anymore, I've had to help normalfags get an adapter for their Wiis after buying some hdmi only smart tv like twice so far.

It's not like it would be prohibitively expensive to just throw in one of those little 3.5mm sockets and sell a composite/component adapter for it as an optional accessory, but I wouldn't be surprised if TV manufacturers were in cahoots with whoever makes those generic composite to hdmi adapters that are all over amazon.

It is honestly unreal how bad they are. I bought a 4K TV from LG a couple of years ago and anything I hook up looks unbelievably dim, blurry and laggy if I use the built in converter.
I didn't want to buy a smart TV either, but that seems to be practically all that they sell now.

>but that seems to be practically all that they sell now.

Basically the only other option aside from Smart TVs is to try and get some signage monitors or to get one of those meme huge computer monitors and to just use it as a TV instead. They can't spy on you though so good luck not paying like 3000$ for something that would be 200$ if it could sell your data.

That, or just be on the lookout for any pre-smart tv HD tvs. There are some good ones still out there but there's way less of a market for them than CRTs which is kind of a shame.

I just resigned to never, ever hooking it up to my internet connection. But in some cruel twist of fate, I lent the TV to my mom for a week while I was on vacation one time and she immediately hooked it up to the internet even though she was just using an Xbox with it. Gen X-ers make my head hurt sometimes.
But anyways, I can't bring myself to get too worried about being spied on because I use a smartphone and the internet. It's ridiculous that this is what life is now, but I'm more or less indifferent to it. I don't really do anything incriminating or terribly embarrassing on the internet.

retard the only TVs that still throw composite ports into them are the shitty store brand 720p tvs that sell for like 150$. The "good" ones are the ones that are HDMI only.
