Coomlector thread

I keep all of my games in bags like this. The weather is starting to warm up so I'm starting to get concerned about the possibility of mold. It gets pretty humid where I live (Tokyo), do I need to worry about them molding? I have a pretty big collection so I'm considering taking them out of the bags but idk what to do. I put them in there to protect them from cosmetic damage.

My collection is 80-some Famicom carts imported from Japan, and I always make sure to get the cheapest, ugliest copies I can find — I've never seen one with mold. The lighter ones discolor like crazy, and the Golden NAMCOT carts turn black and weird, but that's the worst of it.

Stopped reading there. You will NEVER be Japanese, Sean.

Do you put them in bags?

Get them out of the sun.

I'm literally Japanese.

No, I don't put them in bags. And I'm saying I got them discolored to begin with.

If you're worried about humidity, why not get a dehumidifier?

I don't tolerate larping. Pretending to be Japanese because you hoard famicom games is the most cringe shit in the world. Besides that, I don't care what your nationality is.

Like I care. I'm reminding you that there is no possible way you could know someone's genealogy from stereotypes you learned on the internet.

Case in point, I'm not OP. Nice going retard.

I never said you were, idiot, I was responding to your general point about whether I care about anybody's nationality. I only care about Japanese larpers.

Ok buddy, whatever you say.
>>8865413
I'm not sure it's an option. I store my games in a closet and I typically leave the windows open in that room during the summer except for when I'm sleeping in there. We don't have centralized AC so it's unrealistic to close the window and turn on a dehumidifier 24/7, but it's also unrealistic to run a dehumidifier with the windows open. Plus it's not like I would be home all the time to empty the tank (well, I am until work from home finishes) and I can't run a hose across my house to drain it
>>8865426
Take your meds, schizo. I said where I live so I could realistically convey how much humidity my collection is exposed to.

I'm sorry to hear about your suboptimal storage conditions. I suppose you can always throw a bunch of silica packets into a storage bin, that would be an economical no-power option.

>> No.8865476

>>8865467
I'm definitely going to put some of those in my bins and that should be enough. I kept them in drawers for several years with no problems, I just adopted the bags last fall and now I'm concerned about them. It's just a matter of keeping the bags or not. I considered putting a packet in each bag but that's probably overkill and I'm not sure if it would cause damage once they absorb moisture. Would probably be better to lose the bags at that point.

I'm leaning towards removing the bags, but basically I wonder if I'm overreacting.

Get silica bags

>> No.8865495

>>8865476
I don't think the bags are airtight, so the silica should be able to do its job outside the bags.

Couple of Japanese carts for sale near me. Don't have cash flow to buy them

>> No.8865504

If they are airtight, you could take a pin and poke some holes around the board pin connectors to allow some airflow.

>> No.8865927

>>8865504
Nice idea. I just went through and poked holes through the bags of all my games. It took a while because there's a lot, but I think this might work. I need to get some of those silica packs though before the weather gets too warm.

If they're not being stored in an airtight container such as a drawer be sure to get silica packs that will indicate when the packet has absorbed its share of moisture as you'll need to check and replace them a bit more frequently. Consider using multiple.

t. not a silica packet manufacturer

A drawer is airtight?

They're spread out between plastic bins like pic related and cassette drawers. Not sure how air tight those are.

Why? That would keep the moist air out. Seal and put a silica bag in there, it will absorb and retain the moisture, while no new moisture could get in.
