The average gamer in the 80s/90's definitely did not have 32 games.

But if he had 32 games, he'd certainly try to beat them all, wouldn't he?

Rad 2015 twitter meme.

I've never seen anyone actually mad there are girls in games. It's a strawmen that gets trotted out every time every time people don't like something that's bad or stupid, like those new Star Wars movies.

This. But I do welcome the stereotype of gamers being women hating white supremacists who go on minority killing sprees that journalists, the media, and Twitter leftoids have been trying to push. It's hilarious.

That I can get behind. Because it is very funny, seeing people get continually bent out of shape over "gamers", when gamers are just sitting their with a finger up their nose, playing Smash Bros.

feminists were the ones always complaining about lara croft for being over sexualized, its funny how theyre trying to retcon this history of gamers hating her.

Eh, somewhat accurate. Something I've been thinking about lately is in the past, being incompetent, constantly dying, and losing far more than winning was just part of the deal with older games. It seems like these days there's this pressure to be good at every game you have available to you, to know everything about everything you touch, even though pretty much all of us likely have an insurmountable "backlog". It's not even a backlog anymore. It's just we have too many god damn games available and there's no decent way of organizing them or deciding what order to play them in, or how to play them.

I think there's a certain kind of personality that pretty much needs to invest themselves in some kind of fantasy. Publishers know a game with a narrative tends to sell thanks to the likes of MGS and FF games from FF7 onward. Narratives also do a good job of bringing in a broader audience (AKA women).

But as far as normies/dudebros/zoomers being interested in a game just because there's a girl...I think that's more of a symptom of something larger.

The feminist attitude it to take away the female characters people like, like old Lara, replace them with boring characters like new Lara, and then insist there's some deep set problem of "sexism", when really people are just mad at you specifically for being a killjoy.

I was born 1986
I definitely had at least 50 SNES games by the time the N64 dropped. I'm not from a wealthy family either but I was the annoying only child of a tired working couple so my NES and SNES were my babysitters.

My dad bought a chipped PS1 with literally 30 burned CD-Rs. Thats why disc based stuff was so based. Mega Drive and N64 I dont think you could get pirated stuff.

Used to swap games for a week or two all the time when I was a kid. There were also shops where you could borrow one for a weekend for a pittance, and some libraries had vidya too. Don't have to own a game to beat it.
