Why is it that barely any anime themed games got western releases before like 2010 or so? Did they just assume baka gaijin don't like anime and it would flop?

Not /vr/, but a lot of visual novels got translations and exclusive contents on the Xbox 360, way before 2010. As for why, the "anime" console is the PC Engine, which flopped massively in the west. The other anime platform is the PC-98, whose game developers barely had 2 pennies to rub together and couldn't afford translation or ports.
