Classic RE is dead but we still got Mario Odyssey which plays like 64 and Sunshine. I kind of wish you were right because let me tell you, I fucking hate Odyssey and RE7 and RE8. I'd take another co-op game with good old RE cast like RE5 any day over streamer bait trash. As for Mario, Galaxy 1 and 2 were amazing and then 3D Land and 3D World are everything I wanted a 3D Mario game to be as someone who started with the 2D entries and then they decided to ruin it all and appeal to fucking so*boys who don't even play Nintendo games just hoard their stuff and say that SM64 is the best 3D Mario ever just because everyone else says so

Not a complete list by any means, but there's a list that I made of some of the higher profile games of 1996:

> Duke Nukem 3D (DOS) (Jan' '96)
> Resident Evil (PS1) (March '96)
> Super Mario RPG (SNES) (March '96)
> Metal Slug: Super Vehicle - 001 (Neo-Geo MVS/ AES)
> Quake (DOS) (June '96)
> Super Mario 64 (N64) (June '96 - JP)
> Pilotwings 64 (June '96 - JP)
> NiGHTS into Dreams (Sega Saturn) (July '96 - JP)
> Crash Bandicoot (PS1) (September '96)
> Wipeout 2097/ XL (September '96)
>Tekken 2 (Arcade, PS1) (August, October '96)
> Tomb Raider (Sega Saturn, PS1, DOS) (October '96)
> Command & Conquer: Red Alert (DOS/ Win 95) (Nov '96)
> Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (PS1) (November '96)
>Dead or Alive (Model 2 arcade) (Nov '96 - JP)
> Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (N64) (Dec '96)
> Mario Kart 64 (N64) (Dec '96)

Daytona came out in late 1994 and early 1995 for the Sega Saturn. Virtua Fighter 2 was released in 1995 in NA for the Saturn. Though Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition was released for the Saturn in 1996. Virtua Fighter 3 was released in 1996 for Model 3.

Haven't played Village, but RE7 from a design perspective felt very much like a return to the classic RE formula. The level progression & design even parallels the original Resident Evil to a substantial degree.

Mansion = Main House
Residence = Guest House
*Return to original area to take care of the last locked doors*
Testing Area = Caves
Ship/Labs = Lab

Virtua Fighter 1996 releases:
> Virtua Fighter 2 -Mega Drive (JP/ UK... NA didn't get a release until 1997)
> Virtua Fighter (Windows 95 - This is a port of Virtua Fighter Remix for the Saturn)
> Virtua Fighter Animation (GameGear)
> Virtua Fighter Kids (Arcade and Sega Saturn)
> Fighters MegaMix (Sega Saturn)
> Virtua Fighter 3 (Model 3 arcade)

Daytona 1996 releases:
> Daytona USA (windows 95 - literal port of the Saturn game)
> Daytona USA CCE (Sega Saturn - a remake the original Daytoina USA for the Saturn)

Though, Fighters MegaMix was one of the better 3D fighters of 1996. Virtua Fighter 3 was one of the best looking games of 1996, as it was using Sega's new Model 3 board.

Picking this purely for the amount of user content being generated even today. Though, I really like Metal Slug, Mario 64 and RE for goofy and spooky times too. Also, that's the Shareware Duke, not full release, so you're missing practically all the cool shit in the full release. Like Blood's Shareware where you don't get to play around with the Voodoo Doll, Tesla Cannon, and all the other awesome weapons you get later on.

does the game play like resident evil?
if it doesn't, then it's not fucking survival horror, it's as simple as that

if a platformer has 2d gameplay, then it's not a fucking 3d platformer, it's a 2d platformer, just like if a horror game doesn't have mechanics similar to the classic survival horror games it's not a fucking survival horror game

why is this so hard to understand?
