What were the best, what were the worst.

Best games to make use of it, etc.

Do you find it somewhat appealing or do they just take up drawer space.

A world where they still exist in the chunky form they took in the 80-90’s.

They had their moment. It made sense with CDs because the format was expensive and a slow starter in the gaming landscape so making it an optional upgrade made sense. Then there's the Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player which are add-ons by definition but people treat them more like accessories. Not a whole lot of reason to do it anymore.

For the amount of hate it gets the 32X is the one that significantly increased the graphical performance of the base unit.
New homebrew on the n64 has shown that the 4MB ram could have been been used to increase graphical performance by a fair bit but wasn't really realized massively during the n64 lifespan. There is a new mario 64 homebrew that increases the framerate by a lot by allowing data to be rolled out in ram.
DD64 would be the worst, not much extra data storage and no extra power.
The Intellivision computer ad on is just bad, just pathetic by computer standards.
Master system fm expansion sound is great in Y's and Phantasy Star.
Then you have all the cd32 expansions still being made to this day.

PC Engine CD - Easily the best games for any addon.
Sega CD - Respectable second place, a weaker line then PCE-CD but could have been better if Sega pushed it harder.
Saturn Ram pack - Plenty of excellent titles needed this
N64 Expansion Pak - I think Perfect Dark was the only game that needed this, still that alone is better then the 32x.
Satellaview - Sadly we can only sorta experience this through remade roms but what is remade is pretty damn good.
Sega Channel - I actually played this once at friends house, it was fine but not actually and needed caused some games to never get a proper release in the west so fuck it.

It's like comparing a slice of cheese with a watch. You can enjoy both of them.

A/B button placement is absolutely abysmal for ergonomics but having a volume control on pad is AWESOME and afaik hasn't been replicated since unfortunately.

Why having a mic on a game controller? There was game that really needed people talking through it? Game software that was able to elaborate the player speeching?

Apparently Nintendo was thinking that the Famicom could be used as a karaoke machine using the mic but it didn't really work out all which is the reason why they removed it on the NES.

I really doubt that the S&K was able to pass all the data coming from the 32X through it. I understand the fact on using such lockon system cartridge as an adaptor, but that's too much, imo.

Only 20 out of the 32X's 40 games are even worth playing, and maybe 10 of those are good games.
