I kinda like Dragon Quest/Warrior. Even if it has not aged well. I have played a fan translation of the SNES DQ1 and the GBC DQ1, but I still like the original.

Any of you like the older (as in, up to Dragon Quest VII or Dragon Quest Monsters 2) Dragon Quest/Warrior games.

btw I'm at level 6 on DW

Currently on disc 2 in Dragon Warrior VII, characters around level 39 and I have 3 people who have mastered Hero class.

Dragon Warrior IV is my favorite of the series.

Dragon Warrior is not a thing. It was a shameful accident that was long since rectified. Let it fucking go.

I know. It was just the title of the fucking game before Square Enix got the copyright, so I thought such would be fucking appropiate.

Dragon Warrior NES is still one of my all-time favorite games, and the one I credit with getting me into the RPG genre as a child. I think it was also the first game I ever beat, at about age 10.

I love how lonesome and empty the world feels. It's like you're out there in this place where evil has practicaly won already. There are only a few scattered towns, none of which are in contact with the others, and outside the city walls of the last half-dozen or so remaining bastions of civilization... there's nothing but windswept, abandoned landscapes, whatever wildlife has managed to survive, and the minions of the Dragonlord.

Then you get all Rainbow Bridge-y on the big bad, bust your way into his castle, and set things right through sheer determination and force of will, mano-a-mano with the lord of Charlock Castle, completely by yourself.

No other game in the series ever quite matched that experience. Not that DQ1 is my favorite in the series anymore (that'd be 5, or maybe 8), but it's something that the series never returned to: solo adventuring in a ruined world, fixing everything on your own because nobody else wants to. I really liked that.

you can always do a solo run in 3 or 9. I agree it still isn't the same, though. They're actually made with a full party in mind.

>It was just the title of the fucking game before Square Enix got the copyright
It was never the title of the game. It was just a stand-in used 25 years ago.

Calling Dragon Quest "Dragon Warrior" is like saying that air is an element. It used to be called so once, but it was proven wrong long ago and is not in use anymore.

>> No.884774

>>884752
Yes, we should always call a game by its intended name. We should also be calling Kid Icarus "Light Myth: Palthena's Mirror" and Castlevania "Devil's Castle Dracula" and Mega Man as "Rockman" from now on just to be clear.

>> No.884787

>>884774
Except, unlike your examples, "Dragon Warrior" was a copyright incident - and it has been fixed more than ten years ago. "Dragon Warrior" is not a thing anymore, period.

I.e., you have no idea what you're talking about.

>> No.884795

Playing through IV right now. Good ass game. I'm a little past when you get Ragnar in your party.

>> No.884801

>>884713
Dragon Warrior 1 was also quite a bit less linear than a lot of JRPG's. Just about the whole of Alefgard was open to you if you were strong enough to take on the monsters. Gotta say, though, the GBC version is much more fun simply because of the grinding being almost eliminated.

>> No.884803

>>884752
I call the first 4 NES releases and the PS1 release "Dragon Warrior" because it's a quick, clear shorthand for "original North American release of the game." If I'm playing remakes under the Dragon Quest name, or anything from 8 on, I use Dragon Quest because, again, it's an easy way to reference the specific version I'm talking about.

In other words, I refer to the games by their NA release titles, whatever those might be. There's nothing wrong with that.

>> No.884804

>>884787

OP here. Yes, it was a copyright incident, but it feels customary to call Dragon Quests I-IV and VII, and DQM 1 and 2 "Dragon Warrior" in America and Europe because that was the name they were given in America, and since DWI and II had improvments over DQI and II (battery backup, more movement options, better graphics), it feels customary.

Stop being an asshole.

>> No.884808

The name of the game you played is Dragon Warrior. It's different from Dragon Quest in much of the dialogue and it has removed content. The western released were enhanced ports.

Deal with it.

>> No.884809

>>884803
Which is correct.

But there is no "Dragon Warrior" as a series. And there definitely is nothing like "Dragon Quest/Warrior".

>> No.884820

>>884809
I don't mind OP using that terminology at all because to me, it indicates that he's talking about the NA run of releases, including the DW games and the DQ games.

I, too, always refer to the series overall as DQ, but it doesn't really matter as long as people know what you're talking about.

That is where I got my copy of the game as well. That was an amazing promo in it's day.

We never had Nintendo Power, so I'm not sure where our copy came from. My dad was the one who played that game first and I played it after he was finished with it. My dad was the always the one who played though a new Dragon Warrior game first and I basically picked up the series because of him.

I'm playing Dragon Quest VII right now and thinking of making Gabo a Teen Idol because none of the skills require MP. Everywhere I look people recommend Maribel for Teen Idol, but that just seems like a waste and I need her for sage/summoner.

Is Teen Idol a good class for Gabo or am I missing something?

God, after all this time, I think the DS trilogy was still my favorite.

Cause when I like my DQ, I like em' fast, and I think those are the fastest titles in the series. Am enjoying DQ7 though. Very cryptic game.
