Fucking retard. Spamming the same lazy stock explosion effect that covers 60% of the screen for every trash mob is just lazy, looks like shit, and obscures so much of the screen in visual clutter.

Compare that to something like Metal Slug, where there are multiple unique levels of destruction and top-notch animation for destroying the environment, as well as being implemented into gameplay by stopping enemy spawns or giving you items/score when you destroy structures.

It's crazy that Metal Slug came out just two years later. It so thoroughly mogs Contra Hard Corps in every imaginable way. Graphics, art-style, sound, animation, mechanics, control, weapons, boss fights, enemy design, level design, setpieces, pacing, attention to detail, etc. Just puts the shitty Contra games to shame.

Oh yeah this was meant to be a comparison of destruction Contra Hard Corps vs. Metal Slug.

Absolute night and day difference. Imagine puking out stock explosions that cover 3/4ths of the screen and then having this masterpiece two years later that has such intricate destruction levels and animations. It's truly incredible and even nothing today comes close.
