It's fucking great. Only problem is how Working Designs inflated enemy HP. And did a bunch of other dumb shit. Ruined an otherwise (near) perfect game. Some of the platforming sections in the later section of the game are absolute bullshit.

It's Landstalker but worse:
-wrong perspective
-worse music
-worse dungeons
-no fun and light hearted interactions with NPCs
But it's still playable. Try the Unworked Design hack by Supper if the fights feel too tedious.

I don't. Generally I like Working Designs a lot. They really screwed up with balance changes for some games like Exile II, but did fine for the most part with others like the Lunar games and Alundra. I understand being against their style of localization or localizers changing game balance at all, but for many of their games the issues are exaggerated.

Gaining new items in a Zelda game is usually an exciting and happy event.
The sword smith in Alundra outright says he gets inspired to make a new weapon whenever someone dies. That is some conflicting emotions.

Working Designs ruined not only the translations (making dumb shit up, inserting dated commentary, putting meme shit into the main story) and wrecked the gameplay and balance of multiple titles they worked on.
As in there are games they "localized" (that's american for ruined) that require you to grind for over an hour at the start to not get one-shotted by bosses and plays fart sound effects during dramatic main story cutscenes.

>Also, may be in the minority, but I loved Alundra 2.

It's a great game as a kid haven't played it since. I only recently started playing Alundra and it's a bit boring desu.

>> No.8833039

>>8831015
You start to get a feel for how the game ought to play after so many play-thrus and normal slimes taking four hits with the starting dagger just makes things feel like more of a slog than it need be.

The biggest offender in the localization isn't so much the puns but how they utterly fucked the puzzle for the fire charm bracelet forcing you to go through thar section of the game without it. They intentionally obfuscated the hint that was otherwise presented and only gave you the solution well after you would ever have any need of the bracelet.

Iirc the manual talks about how they did some rebalancing because they found that enemies took too long to kill. Except they exacerbated the issue by making enemies harder to kill while adding the Legend Blade as the solution. Awful on all fronts. (Just remember that magic is broken whenever you're in a boss fight.)

It's an Alundra game in name only. Doesn't have anything to do with the first game, new story, new characters. The game is also very childish and light-hearted compared to the first one. All around, it's nothing special. It's not a bad game and you can have fun with it. The camera was fucking horrible. Takes some time getting used to.

It's annoying. The camera is at a fixed angle so you're essentially in an isometric view the entire game. You only have eight directions of movement, for your character and camera. There is plenty of platforming so have fun doing it in nearly isometric perspective with only eight directions of movement. If you or an enemy gets hit you have to wait for a long wake up animation. You cannot hit enemies when they are knocked down after an attack and need to wait for them to get back up. The best way to net more damage is to collect puzzle pieces to add more swings to your base attack since if you do your combo attack the enemy will continually get hit until one of the swings whiff or you complete your combo. Boss arenas are fixed camera which is annoying because sometimes threats come off screen due to it. I highly suggest skipping it. It could have been much better if enemies didn't take so long to down, a better camera, and smoother turning movement, but as is just play a different game.

>> No.8834108

>>8833286
I didn't like it when I played it as a kid, compared to the original at least. Yet I still completed it and sunk about fourty hours into it. It's actually got some really good stuff going for it and feels more like a one piece video game than the somber melancholy of the original. If you can check your expectations at the door and approach it with an open mindset it has some pretty great dungeons. Camera kinda sucks at times.

Just be sure to play on "EASY" which is actually the NORMAL difficulty mode because Activision decided to pull some shit when localizing it. And yeah, you can totally just play on "NORMAL" (which is effectively HARD mode) but all it does is give enemies more HP and make them hit harder. It needlessly drags fights out to the point where bosses you go through 1-3 more cycles than necessary. Doesn't explicitly make the game harder.

I wish I knew the difference between easy and normal. I'm at the final dungeon right now and it's really dragging on. I need to defeat Zippo but I had enough for the night. They made such garbage changes to the game. The game was based on simple puzzles and platforming and they made a minor part of the game take away from the meat of it.
