How many years of video gaming were so prolific as to match the output of 1986?

1986 saw the release of:

>Super Mario Bros. 2j
>The Legend of Zelda
>Metroid
>Kid Icarus
>Castlevania
>Gradius
>Dragon Quest
>Ghosts'n'Goblins
>Bubble Bobble
>Outrun
>Alex Kidd in Miracle World
>Fantasy Zone

And this is just the stuff released in arcades, on the Famicom, and on the Master System. There could be still more that I'm missing.

If nothing else, surely 1986 saw the most historic franchise births?

My buddy and I have started doing this stuff a lot since seeing this video, thought about a tournament a while back but it doesn't seem feasible...on /vr/ netplay however...

Also that vid is right, Phase 7 is horribly imbalanced. The only way that P1 doesn't get shafted is if he goes directly to the left full-force, and bumps P2 as he flies right to take 6 easy kills and lodsapoints. Then if P2 doesn't do that, then P1 can easily be trapped and get ganked under those platforms.
