Can I say that I still like the first one the most. I had it on cartridge and for the Sega CD in the 5-in-1 pack. The one on the Sega CD is the same game, but has different audio samples for the enemy deaths. I loved the two-player tag team moves, and the Police special attack weapon. Especially on the elevator stage.

Two things SOR does better than the SNES port of Final Fight.

> can display more than three enemies on screen without heavy slowdown.

The original Streets of Rage came out in 1991, but it feels more like a game from 1989-1990. It still has some of my favourite pixel art on the console, and uses good colours.

Final Fight for the SNES was a really early 1990 release in Japan and was a launch window game for the SNES in NA. It was probably one of the first SNES games I ever played. I was impressed with the large sprites, and how close the game looked to the arcade version. Yes, I did play the arcade version at a local swimming pool complex. It did look impressive. Lack of two player was a a strike against it. It did have some missing stages and bosses too. Streets of Rage came out around the same time as Final Fight on the SNES NA release. Streets of Rage didn;t look as impressive. With its smaller sprites. But the game had two player, which was great. It did display more enemies on screen at once. The developers tried to make the sprites for Streets of Rage 2 look more detailed, to compete with Final Fight. Even in the US/ NA TV commercials the game advertised 'bigger sprites' than the first one.

It was hard not to compare the two, since they came out so close to each other in the NA market. It is only really the SNES port of Final Fight (and the SNES sequels) that gets compared to the SOR series.

He actually did demolish me, given the health I had left. But only because I couldn't control the Axel, due to losing controller connectivity when I had to hit the pause button on the recording software. I would have waited for the boss to use the special attack.

And for the record, I have owned this game on cartridge, the Sega 5-in-1 Sega CD pack, the Sega 6-Pak, and on various Sega collections. This is probably my most re-owned Genesis game outside of Sonic 1. I used Retroarch with the NTSC 320p shadder.

I had a kind of hard time beating 2 with Skate. Axel has an answer to everything with the Ground Upper, Max has that sweet ground swipe that is almost as good and you can combo into his awesome grabs, and even Blaze has some excellent throws and options, but Skate's pitiful reach just threw me completely off. I know he is not a bad character or anything, but everything is way riskier, and the bosses' bullshit is way more apparent when you can't counter to their whiffs as easy, you try to grab them or dash attack them, and they just punish you back for existing. Bear is particularly a nightmare, even if you use a weapon, because Skate is kinda bad at using them. So are Abadede, the Ninja bosses and Shiva, even the regular ninja enemies were hard, you'd expect for your dash attack and special forward to be safe options, and they are with every other character but all those fuckos can easily punish you with Skate.

I was doing very well one time, then I proceeded to lose a whole continue to Bear Jr and the ninja on the elevator, then Shiva destroyed me again, and ran out of lives to Mr X. I managed another time, discovered Skate's Corkscrew kick is very good and safe for Mr X, you can make him eat it whole while he's shooting his tommygun. Very good game, worth the hype honestly.

>>8831693
I am a shitter casual and I managed it once. I didn't feel as compelled to do it again and again like 2 because the game is more monotone and the bosses are just like stage hazards that are alive and you have to cheese or be cheesed and it feels bad, but it's definitely doable. It's a good game for an early Genesis title.
