6th gen is soulful and you could definitely argue cel damage was soulful but that game was still honestly kinda mediocre in my eyes. I preferred vigilante 8
Anyways my vote for underrated soulful 6th gen game is Downhill Domination. Absolutely great arcade racer with insane level design and a good combat system. Unfortunately bike customization and bike upgrades seem to be a late dev cycle afterthought.

6th gen was beginning of end, console makers just selling shitty Halo/GTA/sports games to dudebros and small companies getting bought out or folding left and right. PC finally eroded as a platform and had some hits but ultimately was on its way to becoming the console sloppy seconds platform that we know and love as steam, Gabe's software license rental service masquerading as a store. The only good thing about 6th gen was that games were in 3D and didn't have eternally shit framerates as they did in 5th.

Most people praising the PS2's library don't even know that they games they're referencing are almost all multiplats. Ask most people what console GTA was on in 6th gen and they will tell you it's a ps2 game.

If you like the game, nah. It has a different ending and most of it is actually brand new backstory for the protagonist with much less action. The parts from the actual game are cool, so you might want to just skip to them.

You are talking about shit that happened more towards the middle of the 7th and deliberately ignoring the technical advances the 6th gen made over the 5th all the while keeping that same ethos of making a good game that stands out from the rest. You could very easily ignore the dude bro Halo/GTA crowd and middleware development companies existed well into the 7th gen (they really started getting bought up post 2007/8). Steam didn't even really start gaining ground till that era as well.

I can tell you are making shit up because Japanese development companies, while not as dominant as they were in the 5th gen, were still a major force in the 6th. Capcom with RE4, the DmC series, Clover games, Namco with Tekken and Soul Calibur, Sega, Nintendo, etc. were still in the game even though Microsoft and the likes of EA and Ubisoft had gained ground. Posts like these make me think you are either a hyper-nostalgic zoomer who wasn't there complaining about shit that never happened or an old fart who has rose-tinted glasses about the past shitting on technology he doesn't like.
