What's the oldest game aside from pic related that has an active community? basically at least 1 server active any time of day.

>> No.8796813

tfc? idk

A MUD probably, if you want to count that.

not even the oldest team fortress game with an active server

>> No.8796887

>>8796816
Yeh. Probably this. If you're talking about something with a server browser there's Doom, if you're counting a source port.
Quakeworld would be the oldest otherwise though.

Ever earlier, PLATO games are still alive. These are online games on a server.
Another example is Street Fighter 2 I think.
It all comes down to what you call an active community. People still score attack Atari 2600 games too.

Always had a few servers up, though recently a few Chinese servers have popped up with massive amounts of players, quite strange but I don't see them anywhere else so w/e.

Quake Live

I have played both for over 20 years. They're both great. Besides, Goldsrc is a heavily modified Quakeworld engine. Both were responsible for shaping and making esports what it is today, when it comes to mmofps.

Forgotten Hope 2

>> No.8804676

>>8804076
Played that game for years. 14.99 subscription, my parents paid it. It's a crying shame it never got a big enough player base to really make use of its potential. Poor graphics aside, it would have been awesome even if it was just a tank or fighter simulator thanks to the level of realism and authenticity, but it was all that plus a fps, plus a strategy game, all as an MMO in a half-scale virtual recreation of a big chunk of Europe, running day and night. Constant and substantial patches. It still is unlike any other gaming endeavor. It just required autism to really appreciate, you could spend hours spawned as an infantryman in a non-combat capacity like spotting, or driving infantry multiple km to an attack in a truck. I always keep a small hope alive that somehow it will suddenly get thousands of new players and function as was always intended yet never realized.
