While the original Chrono Trigger is my favorite games and Toriyama is a major contributor to its formula, I think there are more interesting art styles that would be great to showcase in a game. So Yuki Nobuteru, who did the character design art for some of my favorite animations like Gunnm, Lodoss War, and Escaflowne of the Skies, I think is a great fit for the series.

I just don't get Square when it comes to remakes or remasters, the recent Legend of Mana remaster was great and looked wonderful, M2 even included the pocket Playstation minigame in it and the recent Final Fantasy Pixal remakes are damn good. Then you got full remakes like Trails of Mana and Dragon Quest 3 which even if they don't surpass the originals there is clear effort put into them but Final Fantasy VIII and Chrono Cross remasters are awful with zero effort put into them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen, it's the niche games that tend to get the most love and to a degree, effort, put into them, while something like DQ is a saint among JRPGs just by virtue of it's legacy. Legend of Mana's remake is a fucking tragedy, but Trials' was a step in the right direction that I feel must've been due to the amount of backlash Legend got just on it's schizo 50-card-pick-up music alone.

Even Chrono Trigger's PC port -- while still not perfect -- never wouldn't been fixed if not for fans' complaints.

For remasters and ports. Look at Resident Evil Zero versus Resident Evil Remake for a good example. RE0 despite being the shittier game has a god like remaster because they for some reason kept the renders for that, but not for REmake.
