I did it, I beat Fire Emblem Gaiden. Great game overall and difficulty wasn't as insane as everyone made it out to be, I really liked the mix of strategy and RPG.

The fight I was complaining about in my previous thread >>8772593 was actually the hardest fight in the entire game for me. Chapter 3 was the hardest overall because difficulty cranked up and I didn't have the high means at my disposal (I didn't really grind by then). So for that fight I decided to give saving everyone, let 2 units die, and revived them afterwards. As it turns out I never needed the revive once after that so it was a wise decision. After that everything was easy though I did grind quite a bit, especially in Cecilia's chapter as The Lost Woods provide a ton of exp in no time.
I lost 2 people in the final battle though.

Pic related was a difficulty spike until I realized that Falcon Knights are basically invicible gods. it's funny how the worst, weakest class turns into the most OP one after lvl up and class change, I guess it's the reward for keeping them alive all that time.

Thoughts on the first game? I'm a bit afraid of the fact you can't grind your way out of things

In fact it looks to me like FE1 is more challenging. I've had someone die and reset 4 times already in the thid map...

Good work Anon, I recently played the 3DS remake and it scratched an itch I've been having since Shining Force and Vandal Hearts, a simple but enjoyable SRPG

I also played the remake. The graphics were nice, but I like the black backdrop that goes with the fight animations in the original game.

Apparently picrel has a similar system to FE Gaiden where you're managing two armies. One progresses through a route with static xp given by fixed encounters, while the other route is more open world with grind opportunities.
You can trade items and units between both armies to grind and progress optimally.

I've been meaning to try it out, but I want to play Thracia 776 before taking on the Kaga Saga.

Okay, I give up on trying to grind with the arena in FE1. I was doing this the safest way possible by only grinding with the knight and with Marth and only against thieves. Except that when my knight went from lvl 7 to 8 he apparently lost stats (no stat gain showed at all, he now deals 1 less dmg and recieves 2 more dmg against the same enemy).

And then, after 1 hour of grinding when I had this system down to a rythm, the thief crit Marth killing him with a blow that dealt about 17-18 dmg. Jesus.

anyone knows if FE1 is more leniant towards requiring grind? I'm coming from FE2 and it was pretty much expected of the player there.

>requiring grind
Having never played older FE games, I want to expand that question - how many FE games (at least largely) require grinding at all? I really don't care for that at all, and never do it. If an entry requires you to cheese your way past because the difficulty is so all-over-the-place, then I will just skip that one.

Is there any reason to play FE1 over FE3 book 1,
beyond SOVL and a couple of extra maps?

Not dissing here, legit question. As far as i know, they are almost the same except for qol improvements on FE3

I just let people die in FE1
The game gives you tons of units to replace them
Also there's some different dialog at one point later if you let the main blue haired girl die

Caeda/Shiida is probably the only one you really want to keep for recruitments.
Ogma, Hardin and Wendell basically carried my playthrough. Not that i didn't use others, but on most of the tough spots i had one of those three handle things.

you can probably do FE2 without grinding, after all I only used the revival spring 3 times; though if you don't have Pegasus Knights at a decent level when the game throws tons of dragons at you you're in for a hell of a time
