This was probably the best, most challenging DOOM game of the retail releases.

The first level's challenge is trying to fucking see anything.

the pc port doesn't have this problem

It's the best, most challenging Doom period.

Prove me wrong. Protip: You can't.

this, that also made me laugh harder than it probably should have.

The only game even in emulation where I have to fuck with the brightness to get it at a comfortable and playable level.

don't emulate it then, just play the pc version.

Eh, not a fan of all the puzzling they injected into the game.

I really don't care, all I can say is fuck Plutonia, oh god I have never had so many bullet holes in my ass as I did with that.

Nope, that would be Final Doom OP.

>> No.879826

Not the most challenging imo, but definitly a masterpiece. A true sequel to Doom.

Is it possible to play it using the wiimote for aiming?

Plutonia is far more challenging

the only thing challenging about plutonia is the terrible level design.

I'm glad this game is getting respect as years go by. Some of the sprites do look pretty awful, but the level design (in terms of puzzles, monster placement, pacing, SECRETS, etc.) is spot on, and I can't really do the atmosphere of this game any justice with words. The darkness and colored lighting and creepy music and groaning monsters in the distance all at once is just really overbearing.

For me, it's

They where experimenting with Doom 3 before they thought about it.

Some maps were challenging like Unholy Temple and Watch Your Step, but the lack of Chaingunners, Revenants, Arch-viles and Spider Masterminds really made the game's overall difficulty suffer a little bit.

From years of playing Doom, I've come to realize how needed every doom monster is, as they all added a unique form challenge to the player, especially when some were paired up with other monsters.

Really, the end result with Doom 64 was that there were too many of the same monsters, mainly Hell Knights. But the one thing I loved about Doom 64 was that they got around their limitations by adding map hazards as well.

In the end, it's still a great addition to the series and better than Doom 3 in the horror aspect, but it's challenge isn't that high.

Imagine if they added nightmare variations of every monster though. Nightmare Barons, Mancubus or even Cyberdemons.

The Ultimate Doom was a retail release.
Thy Flesh Consumed is absolute hell on earth in terms of difficulty.
