I was looking through the switch snes library and I saw it had the first 2 Breath of fire games. I played the gba port of 1 a lot and enjoyed it so I'm giving 2 a shot. I just beat this thing in a well shortly after getting Stein so im probably gonna do a little grinding before I move forward. Is there any big mechanics that I should be using or paying attention to that I should be using? rpgs from this era tend to not have many ways to learn what stats or commands do outside of trial and error, or would that just be in the manual?

>in the early going, fishing is a good way to make money fast: bait is cheap and fish sell for a good amount

>always stash excess cash in a bank, anytime your party is wiped out you start back at the last place you saved your game with your XP/levels retained and treasures found but lose half your gold

>consult a guide once you're given the option to start populating your town, you can't refute residency once granted and you only have so many slots to fill. Make sure you at least get Barrette in Windia, her shop starts mid but later gets surprisingly strong equipment and keeps updating unlike other shops.

>Make sure you're prepared before entering Simafort or Highfort, once the plot starts going you won't be able to leave until you finish (especially Highfort, ignore leveling/gearing Sten at your peril).

>Bleu/Deus is hidden character and can be gotten as soon as you get the whale but comes at a high level and literally breaks the game/makes Nina redundant.

>In the ocean NW of Simafort there's a lone island where you can grind against powerful randoms, most can be one-shot with the right OHKO attack. Experiment!

your battle formation determines how much damage your melee attacks give and how much damage you receive in return from enemy attacks, as well as frequency of being targeted.

It's literally a better, more personality-filled script with names for things that make sense though, sans inserting some BoF3 names into it for no real reason.
