I never understood all the excitement over raytraced Quake, raytracing would have been cool 30 years ago, but non-raytraced tech has advanced so far that it's not really an improvement anymore. We know how to fake it to look as good or better than raytracing, even if raytracing is technically more correct in many ways.
Now, non-photorealistic rendering, that's interesting. That quake port that renders so it looks like it was drawn with pen and paper is cool, or the ascii quake port.

For the record, I'm a libertarian who fucking loves Heinlein, but Vox and his retard buddies keep making us look like clowns in the SF community, claiming there's an evil librul conspiracy in the Hugo awards to downvote his books because of his politics.
To prove it, they submitted a new book of his under a pseudonym, since then the conspiracy wouldn't know it was him and downvote him, right? Result: the "new author's" book went straight to the bottom of the list, because the problem wasn't liberals, it's Vox Day being a hack who can't write worth shit and isn't worthy of being a pimple on the ass of the man he's trying to be.
