Recommend me some good /m/echa games. Currently playing through Do You Remember Love on SS after rewatching the show and the movie and I’m in the mood for some more mecha games. Doesn’t matter what console, as long as they’re fun

You’re right and I agree but the SRW series is so autistic and niche that it only appeals to that market. I’m not agreeing with the anon who said HB is casual because that’s pretty dumb, but I would argue that SRW is definitely more hardcore. Let’s look at it like this, a dudebro would definitely have more interest in something like that game (“woah look at that controller. It’s like you’re actually fighting a war dude”) whereas they would scratch their heads at SRW because of how comically niche it is. What market does SB appeal to? Simulator fans, war game fans, hardcore gamers and mecha fans. What market does SRW appeal to? Mecha fans and maybe strategy fans, if they can ignore the extreme amounts of fanservice and callbacks to shows they haven’t seen or care about. There’s a reason almost none of the SRW games got western releases (not counting the Originals series), and not because of the licensing. It’s because the average American gamer doesn’t know what the fuck the Robot Romance trilogy or fuckin Blue Comet SPT Layzner is. That’s why you never see these games bought up on those gay videos while SB often gets a lot of support and insight

How does this have anything to do with mechs?
Replace all the unit in SRW with pokemon and the game doesn't change. It's still a T-RPG.
Replace the mechs in SB and you don't have a mech game at all. You have something completely different.
SB and High MACS are quintessential mech games, SRW is just a T-RPG that happen to have mechs in it

Yeah gundam vs zeta gundam covers zeta era pretty good. Game is ok fun. Controls are an archaic version of the gundam vs games. Feels like less of a fighting game that way so it's pretty cool. That's my biggest fear when it comes to the new gundam evolution game, it's just gonna feel like a shooter akin to overwatch instead of a proper mech game. They show off the suits that will be in a launch in one trailer, but then made a seperate one for masarai and another I cannot remember. If they keep doing that we might see a trailer for more zeta suits before launch, they might not be finalized. Or we'll get them down the line at one point. But I agree that showing off obscure suits first, instead of staple ones, is a bit strange.

Some days when I listen to the openings and ending, I have to laugh to think they were adapted from Neil Sedaka songs of all things. I’m genuinely curious how that arrangement came about. Was Tomino just a hardcore fan of ‘Oh Carol’ and wanted one of his tunes to open Zeta but licensing got in the way so they had original songs written instead? Did they tap him to do the themes and he just bashed out a few tracks to melodies he’d already written? Does this mean Neil Sadaka has seen a bit of Zeta? I wonder what he thought of it if that was the case

In all honesty I’m fairly glad that the new Evolution is game is going to have modern FPS controls. One of my biggest gripes with the newer Gundam games are the controls aren’t the best. They just feel kind of loose and awkward to me. In all honesty I think the Dynasty Warriors games had the best controls for a Gundam title, even if they were just… well, Dynasty Warriors controls. I really dislike those open arena fighters. I remember loving that JoJo All Star Battle fighter but hating Eyes of Heaven because the controls were so different and weird. A more straight forward, back trigger is shoot, X is jump, square reloads, etc, control scheme is great for Gundam. It all needs to be fast paced and I get that such an idea goes against the grain of a Gundam title, because the suits aren’t meant to be fast and they’re meant to be clunky as sin but that F2P one that came out recently was just a nightmare to play because it was so damn slow and clunky.

Anyway, are the Seed GBA games any good? I get they’re just basic one on one fighters (I think) but i dig the sheer amount of suits they have plus I’ve got a soft spot for Shinn and his autistic adventures and I want to wreck shit in the Impulse

I've been meaning to buy GvZG but it's awfully expensive these days. Might just bite the bullet and buy it due to my almost rabid love of Zeta and Zeta-era stuff like AoZ.

Evolution still confuses me, and I remember feeling the same when I first heard it was going to be a thing. It's not a bad idea in itself, but it's somewhat half-assed in just making a hero shooter. Might be an asset flip from the sadly failed Gundam Battle Operation Next that briefly lived and quickly died on the PS4. Honestly as much as I love the Asshimar, the Zeta could have filled the flying transformation niche just as easily. Oh well.
>>8790641
The Sedaka-ness of Zeta makes no sense to me. On one hand I do love the Titans flight jackets/uniforms based on the jacket Sedaka wore on one of his albums, but at the same time I wonder if Tomino was going through a musical mania in between bouts of crippling depression and misery and picked a musician he liked to base Zeta on. He's a great innovator and creator, but Tomino has some emotional issues that has clearly influenced his creative works greatly.

Starsiege was actually pretty damn cool. You could build your own team and customize out their mechs, for two separate campaigns with their own mechs to pick from. It could be rough at times, but the control over the mech was top notch. Any mech game that let's you shift your shielding forwards or backwards, flip it on or off, and shut off your own reactor to go silent and avoid scans is a 10/10 from me.

I played the ps2 game for a bit and it feels like a generic anime action game that luckily doesn't play like total shit. Sure, you can tune the stats of your AT and there are a lot of AT to collect, but you get iframes from dodging and the content is pretty lacking. I blame it on the developer which basically only made wrestling games at the time (they went on and made EDF iron rain).
>>8790663
I assume you mean the fighting game by natsume. They are kind of fun but there is like no story and the later units aren't in the game. You have classic fighting game modes like arcade, survival, free battle and a hard as shit training/combo mode and that's basically it. It has simplified inputs mode but it is still hard to combo as the timing is really tight. Also, just get the seed destiny version as you can access the seed game from it.
