On request from his client, and at least they were like remixes, taking aspects from rock and metal songs and then turning them into something different. You can recognize a lot of the tracks by ear, but they are also not 1 to 1 copies, and some of the ripoffs are different enough that they aren't even obvious.

He has his original stuff, some of it is in Doom, but you can hear a bunch in Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem 3D, but also games like Black Knight, Abuse, and DemonStar.

This board loves to crow PLAGIARISM! whenever a famous composer's influences are discovered. What they don't seem to grasp is that this is what was desired at the time. You had these beep boop machines and the man who could make them sound like famous music was just the genius everyone wanted. No shit they "stole" from other sources.
After CD consoles and the ability to actually make things sound identical to pop music made the process passé then composers were tasked with making stuff sound more like movies. And once people got sick of that we are on original compositions and deliberately retro sounding beep boops.

Shoji Meguro is pretty fucking overrated for the most part. He CAN be good (Maken X and P5 for example) but if you've heard, say, one Meguro boss theme you've heard every one of them. His contributions to Persona are highly overrated since he wasn't really involved in the music in the series (aside for Poem For Everyone's Souls) prior to Persona 3. Also fuck him for completely jettisoning Hidehito Aoki's soundtrack for P1 in favor of his own P3/P4 style trash.

>>8784292
I really hate how soundtracks have turned into EPIC CINEMATIC EXPERIENCES to go with games. I think P5's soundtrack kind of stands out because of it going with the funk and jazz fusion style where everything needs to either sound like it came from a superhero film or be EPIC ROCK or full of sick beat drops.

Which is funny seeing as jazz fusion is basically one of the cornerstones of video game music along with prog rock and early electronica. It's just at some point after the '90s, these influences went away.
