He's in Spain now, yes. Men with three or more children were exempt from military service and he apparently already had a Spanish green card, so he was able to make it to Spain with his wife and kids.

Both carts have what seems like mostly the same components, however the NES PCB is physically larger than the FC PCB, as well the NES PCB has more pins than the FC PCB. Lastly the NES PCB has a through hole in the middle of it to secure it to an integral post within the NES shell, which wouldn't let me fit a FC PCB into a NES shell without being janky. I'm just gonna wait on the right version.

I presume you mean the KrzysioCart? If so, it's quite good really. I would say the Ukies have better overall build quality (their PCB is impeccable), but the Poles put a pretty decent product together. In some ways, it works better than an Everdrive, actually. I have products from both of them and they have not let me down.

The Chinese ones have not impressed me. The first aliexpress flashcart I ordered took overa month to arrive and within the first week it had corrupted my SD card, and it never worked with any other SD cards again. The second one worked fine enough for a while but for some reason it eventually lost the save capability (ie, resetting the console no longer saved the game). I learned my lesson, for the price I paid to own two non-functional flashcarts from China, I could have a single working Everdrive, which is what I own now.

Krzysiobal should offer an enhanced version of the KrzysioCart with compatibility with all games that your typical Famiclone can play. Most Famiclones will not be able to mix expansion audio but it can play those games fine. Pretty much what he'll have to limit support for would be games with four screen mirroring, even MMC5 games work sort of fine on clone consoles, and the only other noteworthy MMC5 game (HAL's SDF) shows no problem on any clone I ran it on (outside of no expansion audio). I'm sure Metal Slader Glory, the game that makes the most use of the mapper, would have issues on clone consoles due to its more advanced features.

A real Everdrive still makes you reset when you save games unless you have the Pro model, this isn't exclusive to chink ones. I haven't really played anything on my chink N8 that does save games except Kirby's Adventure (have the actual cart but too lazy to dig it out) and haven't had any issues with losing the save file.

For NES games, big deal no different than holding Reset down when using the actual carts to avoid corrupting your save file. I could see why it's annoying on SNES or N64 games though since on real carts there's no need to hold Reset down.

It depends entirely on where you get shit. When it comes to independent contractors and manufacturers in China, 9 out of 10 of them are shitcrafters at best or outright scam artists at worst (because China generally has ridiculously lenient punishments for being a fraud), with a small minority of them who actually are just doing a normal job making a product.

You CAN get decent goods made by independent manufacturers in China, but you need to look for it. The better stuff made in China generally comes from the government owned manufacturing concerns, such as NORINCO ('North China Industries'), who make arms for military contracts and for civilian commercial market sales.
A large degree of them are copies of old Soviet stuff but they clone other things. It's actually properly put together, if you want a low cost AK47 or M16 clone, they make those and though they're maybe a little cheaper feeling than the real Russian or American ones, they do function like they should, they don't explode or jam, they can be used like a rifle should be.

tl;dr Chinese goods picked at random are a gamble because the odds are against you, but if you know where to look can verify that the product you're looking at isn't trash or a deathtrap, you can actually be looking at something that adequately fulfills its job at a lower price, even if not being as nice in overall quality.

Of course, you may feel better about supporting more western economies instead, and I very much understand that.

It's not automatic but there's always the potential it could happen because the CPU can write random garbage to the save RAM at power off and NES carts aside from MMC5 ones have no way to disable the write lines on the cartridge interface. Probably 8 out of 10 times you can turn the NES off with nothing happening but there's the smaller chance it does corrupt your save file which is why holding down Reset is safer.

Genuine question. Why not just emulate with the appropriate controller? For systems with 100% accurate emulators of course. You can even hook your PC into a CRT.

>> No.8773615

What happens is when the power is turned off, the CPU becomes erratic as the voltage level drops and can send out spurious signals. Most of the time these will probably go somewhere harmless like the cartridge ROM but it may also be the save RAM. By holding the CPU in a reset condition it's prevented from doing this.

People should do what they want, but be openminded to alternatives.
eg. I have a MiSTer for every platform that runs well, Everdrives for my GB and GBA, an RGB modded console + ED64x7 + CRT for N64 to keep my busy- as I wait warmly on the PS1 core for MiSTer, and I'm waiting on the Morph scaler releasing this year to play more PS2/GC games around that dawn of HD period on a big 4K screen with good polyphase scanline filters to attenuate the visuals a little and get ready for the future when CRTs stop being available hoping the Morph accepts 720p signals too, so it'll work on Switch games, because I think Nintendo's recent focus on big openworld games like BotW or Xenoblade that look blurry and run at 15fps on the Switch's puny Tegra chip was... misguided.

It's about what works for the individual. If a raspberry pi fills your needs, rad, that means you're saving thousands of bucks potentially.

The only thing I want for now, really, is a good controller. My kingdom for Nintendo to release a revision of the Switch Pro con with analogue triggers and snap-dome switches in the D-pad/face buttons.

Sometimes emulation is still very slightly off, and some people want no less than 100% accurate software, but are willing to make compromises with the hardware.

Flashcarts let you run any compatible ROM that you want on the machine in question, which is greatly appealing to people who just want the feel of the original hardware, but don't want to spend the money or make the space for potentially a very large collection of cartridges. There's limits like some games which use special chips, like on the SNES or GBA, but you could still save a lot of space and money on just getting the actual physical carts for those while having the rest of the library on a flashcart.

There's also the perception of systems like Nintendo 64 being bothersome to emulate (whether correct or not), and people feeling it's easier to just play on the machine they still had since they were kids.

I have a cheap Chinese Everdrive GB clone that takes about a minute to load a new game, but can jump into the most recent game instantly. Every time I turn on my Game Boy I prefer to finish the last game instead of starting a new one because of it.
If I want a new Playstation or Dreamcast game I have to wait 20 minutes to burn it. If I want a new PS2 game, I have to take out the hard drive.
In the end I still get to play anything I like, but I rarely end up jumping between games noncommittally because I can have fun now with the game I already have instead.

if you have some casual multiplayer going its kinda nice to play shit that neither has experienced together.

just my two-cents,
if you wanna "BEAT" a game and commit to it thats great, but there are easier solutions for that- savestates, raspberrypi, even certain mister cores, etc

i still beat games, but i find that in my old age- i prefer to pickup and play score chasers and co-op as opposed to 90+ hour rpg grindfests

They are the same, but $30 more. The plus is that you get the everdrive you order in a week rather than a month. That said; I returned my N8, like I mentioned >>8781451, because I would rather save the money overall and have a nicer label.

Plus, if yoy want to wait, on Black Friday Krikzz does a 20% sale on everything. So it is even cheaper than SAG on their sales.

It's kind of a fucking hassle, you need an ADC to convert your modern signal to component then route that through the tink, then use a DAC to convert the tink's HDMI output back to component. If you want composite, you'd need to buy a HDMI to composite adapter or daisy chain adapters but yeah it can produce a 240p image.

There’s another version of the same thing called the RAD2X that plugs right into the AV multi-out port on the console that you can get for a little cheaper last I checked, but you of course lose the ability to use it with non-Nintendo stuff.

while a flat crt by itself will work with lightguns, lots of those flat crts have shitty image-enhancers and 100hz/120hz modes and whatnot, and those "features" are definitely interfering with lightgun-games.

Correct. The geometry of a flat screen will not interfere in any way with a light gun game. But there are other things that will, regardless of the curvature of the screen.
Case in point, I got rid of a very expensive Panasonic curved screen CRT because it had those "features". But I still use my flat screen CRT Toshiba which doesn't. That despite supporting 100/120hz and 480p over component.

Basic logic and knowledge of electricity can tell you his argument was flat out BS. His whole argument was the flashcarts were using a bank of resistors to bring 5V down to 3.3V and that was somehow dangerous for the console. Meaning that having some excess power running on the fucking ground plane might be an issue. Or that the extra voltage might accidentally somehow jump from the cartridge to the console itself. Anyone with even basic electrical knowledge can tell you that most components have a tolerance, and it can handle + or - 5V in most cases for the split second it might be present. Or that the only components at risk of getting fried are on the cartridge itself, and not the console.
You are far more likely to physically damage your console with some shitty repro cart that is too thick and thus bends out the connector pins. And if a cartridge is poorly designed, maybe the cartridge will burn out. But not the console. The console is running on 5V, 5V won't fucking hurt it. The flash-cart is the 3.3V part. The entire argument was that 5V might somehow harm your 5V console. Think about how stupid that is.

I own many different carts and I think EZ Flash Omega DE is by far the best option for GBA. For every other system that has an Everdrive, the current versions of the Everdrive are top of the class. The best flashcarts are really only needed for a few games (for the Nintendo systems, most notably the mainline pokemon games).
On a side note, I spent time in a prison that allowed inmates to have certain retro consoles (nothing more recent that PS1/N64/GBA), and a maximum of 10 carts. I chose a NES and got two Everdrives (for redundancy) disguised as regular carts, loaded with every NES game and the SD slots covered with stickers and the inside partly disguised with black blobs. They made it in, and they made my time easier, but my weekly calls to friends and family often had me asking them to look up FAQs and strategies lol

Not going to possibly dox myself, but nothing really sinister. Desperate situation and made a bad choice. I didn't need protective custody and got parole at my first hearing.
>Why would a prison specifically ban flashcarts
Everything had to be what they thought was official. No reproductions, no multicarts, and especially nothing that could take a SD card or had a USB port. Even our TVs that had USB service ports had to have the port cemented up.
Ideally, I would have gotten a PS1 (I'm all about RPGs) but they didn't allow their memory cards because they found some inmates were using them to hide info. For RPGs I obviously need a system that can save games, which meant flashcarts. N64 doesn't have as many good RPGs so my next choice was SNES but my friends couldn't figure out a way to disguise the available flashcarts, the SD port was too obvious. I considered a GBA but I was afraid it would get stolen. So I settled on NES, which is an awesome RPG console by any measure.

A lot of time. I was in a federal "camp", so life was pretty easy. I had to have a job, which was only about 5 hours per day (divided by a long lunch), 5 days a week. I bounced around to a couple of jobs, all very easy. There were no rehab programs I had to do - at first I thought I should take some to increase my chances of parole, but my counselor said they were all overbooked and if he signed me up for one then I'd need to finish it, so he just told me to chill and stay out of trouble.
The rest of the time was my own. I played vidya about 4 hours each day. When I got bored I would read or go to the gym. Everyone in my unit thought I was retro nerd because playing old consoles is just a novelty that wears off quickly, but none of them knew I had literally hundreds of games to play.

Not really. I wasn't a kid (18-20s) and I'm a big ugly guy. In minimum security camps, everyone is just trying to mind their own business and get out. There is banter but you just ignore it. 1/3 of minimum security is lifers who worked their way down (often because they're old and less security risk), and many of them are pretty normal older men who did something 20+ years ago when they were teenagers. Another third are low risk sex offenders (CP traders mostly) and they come in all shapes and colors, they are usually the least likely to have a criminal "look" (not a scary looking person, but there are exceptions). The other third is everyone else. It would have been different if I was at a medium or maximum level institution, where there are gangs, cliques, violence, etc. But even there I probably would have been left alone by virtue of not being a kid, not being a sex offender, and not being too fat/too skinny/too muscular or too anything else.

>Sounds like it was pretty comfy. Hope you turned your life around for the better.
It did actually turn my life around for the better. I'd been living in an autistic bubble I'd constructed for myself. Losing years of my life like that was like a slow-motion near death experience. It made me realize how wonderful the simple pleasures in life are, and think about my own mortality and what I would leave behind. When I was finally free I did a lot of things I never thought I'd do. Traveled to places I'd only read about. Started a family. Shit like that. But I don't recommend prison as way to personal growth. The whole experience is laden with traps to keep you inside longer, and eventually consume your life.
>I don't think we can dox you or anything, so what kind of ballpark was the crime in, theft, embezzlement, illegal drugs?
No, it would dox me. I was convicted under a crime they made to imprison mafia and terrorists. Before it was on the books, I would have gotten probation. Instead I lost about 6 years.
>Didya get along with anyone else there?
A few, even a couple I keep in touch with. Mostly people like me - technically criminals, but don't have the criminal mindset. Something extraordinary happened and we found ourselves somewhere fucked up, and just tried to survive it. With other people, I didn't really have any problems. I deliberately wore a big thick pair of glasses, played up my geek factor, and I was a big ugly guy (that last part counts a lot in prison). Believe it or not but Big Bang Theory was one of the most popular shows on TV, at least for white and English speaking cons. Lots of episodes, different seasons playing on different channels, sometimes funny, and to many of these guys it seemed like a different world - they couldn't imagine how geeks and nerds actually live. Immediately I was associated with it and I'd play the part to answer questions about science and technology in a dead-pan voice, and most found it funny.

It's a system accurate enough that fighting game fans have begun using it in their tournament setups, and even the famously autistic speedrunner community can't tell the difference in blind testing.
And you get all that performance and versatility for like $300-400.

Yeah a raspberri pi with MAME can play these games too for $50, but the difference is that these emulation cores can promise to be cycle accurate. The only thing better would be buying up all of these original consoles along with flashcarts/ODEs, and I don't know if you checked the price of a neo geo lately but you wont be getting very far with $300.

It doesn’t delete saves, that’s a feature.
Kidding aside, the EDGBA is pretty lean on features and feels like it when there’s competition like the ODE for a similar price point. Krikzz needs to face up to the fact that he has real competition finally.

The ODE doesn't delete saves, though.

Reduced power draw is about the only real advantage. Everything else you might hear is FUD.

>finally
EZ Flash has historically been the best option for Game Boy flashcarts. It's not new competition, it's old competition which has always been around.
For platforms which don't have legacy manufacturers like that, there isn't much competition for Everdrives.

I'm not an EZ drive fanboy in general, but the definitive edition was released in 2018 with a bunch of new features and improvements. It has twice the psram vs the everdrive gba, rumble, system on a chip so you can't brick the cart accidentally, and it has norflash ram so you can boot directly into a game (which is good for the pokemon players who want to transfer mons). The everdrive is apparently more solid cased and has 20% lower battery consumption. Compared to the 2016 omega I would get the everdrive, but I'd get the 2018 definitive over the everdrive.

Both units have 256MB PSRAM, which is all you need.
It has NOR flash, which I don't think the ED has, but frankly I can't see a reason to use it except for mode B.

EZFlash Omega _Standard_ Edition was released in 2018, the Definitive Edition was released in 2021.

What features does the _Standard_ Edition have that EDGBA doesn't?
>Compared to the 2016 omega I would get the everdrive, but I'd get the 2018 definitive over the everdrive.
Again: Omega Standard Edition 2018, Omega Definitive Edition 2021.
Everdrive GBA was released in 2016, Everdrive GBA Mini in 2020.

desu I feel stupid for buying the Everdrive GBA in 2022, the Omega Definitive Edition seems like a much better purchase. maybe I should sell mine for a profit now and buy the ODE.

Yes feature-wise it's not a good off, at least not at that price.
