What's the best platform to experience Final Fantasy 6 on?
is gba a worthy candidate? was thinking about getting it on my phone so I can play it on the go

>> No.876095

I'm pretty sure most people avoid the Playstation version. GBA version or SNES, either one is fine.

gba restored patch. Adds Sound Restoration hack and the Color Restoration hack, plus you get to experience the gba extra content and i think that the translation is better.

>> No.876124

>>876117
The translation is not better. It lacks character.

GBA. Music is a little worse, not noticeable unless you've played the original though. Even then, it's not like the gap between the FFVII PSX/PC version. The pallet is a little brighter as well.

I'd recommend a bug fix patch to fix magic evade and that sort of thing though.

i heard that the GBA version removed the scene where Celes gets beaten up in prison.

does that restored patch thingy add that back in too? just curious.

Magitech was only ever called "Magitek" because of the retarded space constraints they put on Woolsey. Magitech is a fusion of magic and technology. Spelling it with a k is retarded.

>sound and color patches
Once again, that patch has shitty quality sound and they took liberties with the Opera music. The GBA's soundtrack and color pallet differences are within an acceptable level, especially since it was ported to an inferior system. And as far as the translation, Woolsey's version was great if you exclude the censorship that wasn't his fault and the changes he made to it were for the better.

The GBA version is very good. The translation is very good.

I played it on my PSP via an emulator.

Ultros? A pitful commoner with an ego only topped by his supine incompetence, I must say. And let's not even begin to chat about the implied fornications and libations performed with Chupon, that uncouth balloonic pleb.
Don't you agree, Lord Mashalot?

I completely agree, Sir Notedgardington. Pip-Pip and stuff.

They fixed a bug that ignored the evade stat in the snes version.
So in a way, yes.

>> No.878716

I'm extremely conflicted about which version to play.

On the one hand, the SNES version has the superior Woolsey translation and much better sound (fixable with a patch on the GBA version, of course).

The GBA version, however, has more content, some bug fixes, and (I'm so sorry fellow retro bros) better spell names. (I grew up on SNES Final Fantasies and I still prefer "Firaga" over "Fire 3").

I think there's a patch for the SNES version that also fixes some of the gameplay bugs that the GBA version did. What I'm saying is you can't really go wrong, I think.

>> No.878738

>>876083
>GBA
Yes. Especially since you're using a phone, because there's patches for the awful colors/sound, and your phone is much closer in aspect ratio to a GBA.

>> No.878746

Psst.

Woolsey's translation is terrible

>> No.878748

>>876140
The thing is, it's removed in Japan too.

There IS a patchmaker that's working on it, but doesn't know where to start. For now said patch makes the Siren the original japan version and uncensors another boss.

>>878746
Honestly I agree with you, ESPECIALLY at the later half of the game because of how much time the man had.

Sure, I respect the fact that it's quite a feat for the hours put before him, but that thing needed a re-translation worse than even FFVII.

What's wrong with the Playstation version, other than glitches and loading times?

I know those are bad enough to turn anyone away, but I want to know if that's all there is. I'm pretty sure that the PSX version is less censored than what came outon the SNES because it's ported straight from the SFC release. Though from what I can recall, I'm fairly certain the PSX release uses the Woolsey translation (the character you start with is still named Terra).

So? The GBA version was not translated by Woolsey and she's still called Terra.

does the Playstation version have the same shit like FF5 where they changed all the menu and weapon sounds?

They sound really bad.

I have it, but I haven't really played it. I just got it new really cheap online a long time ago.

>> No.879357

I think so. It's not that they changed the sound effects, it's simply that their emulator cannot interpret the SNES sounds and output perfect equivalents on the PS1

>> No.879367

>>878084
No it isn't. The patch's music sounds scratchy as all hell and sounds like crap. I'll take the GBA soundtrack over that mess. If you're so concerned about the soundtrack, just play the SNES version.
