here's some of the most basic stuff

1: Bank your turns, and learn at what speeds unbanked is safe at
2: don't build a giant coaster at the start of a scenario and waste all your money
3: you can charge far more for coasters than you think, matching excitement +2-3 dollars at least for most of them.
4: Umbrellas at $20=lodsamone
5: Hold Shift to build rides/track higher above ground/underground. Holding Ctrl while mousing over track pieces/scenery lets you build things at the same height
6: BANK YOUR TURNS

Taking turns at high speeds can cause high lateral Gs. Above 2.8 lateral Gs rides receive a very large boost to their intensity (extra intensity is not ALWAYS a bad thing though), usually pushing it up past 10, which is the point where rides will receive a substantial penalty to their excitement rating .Banking turns is an easy way to mitigate lateral Gs. The reason it's emphasized so much is that beginner players often struggle with rides with intensity ratings that are too high for most guests without understanding why, and often these problems can be solved just by banking the turns.

Recently got back into the OG RCT and was playing around with Diamond Heights and was having quite a bit of fun until Agoraphobia and Arachnophobia began crashing and incurring tons of down time (none of my 4 mechanics Would fix it?)

Is there something I’m missing, why isn’t it being fixed? Do I need to address the flaw with the ride before reopening? I had the rides set from “half-full” to “full”, not sure if that creates instability or whatever.

But yea I was having a blast until then. I was expanding the park into the untouched islands, building up food/drink/bathroom/ info kiosks where needed. Admission was set at $14.00 and it was fine. Advertising on to attach guests. 4 of each for mechanics and grounds men.

Another thing I found odd was that despite having a security officer, I still had vandalism issues..

Anyways I know I could just google a lot of this instead, but I just discovered this chan and wanted to introduce myself!

>but I just discovered this chan and wanted to introduce myself!
lol faggot
but crashed rides need to be closed twice to reset it before you can reopen, and even then guests will be less likely to ride. If you're running OpenRCT2 and playing the RCT1 scenarios in it, you can add block breaks to coasters. Those prevent brake failures.
Security officers only prevent vandalism in a certain range around them. If you have enough handymen to clean up your paths, then guests shouldn't vandalize in the first place

>> No.8763121

>>8763085
yeah if they crash you have to close it again to "reset" the ride, and then reopen it. The only help mechanics can do is if the crash was due to a brakes failure

I downloaded the vpack, tested all of the 129 scenarios and found the following:

- Bilgewater Park doesn't load (two objects are missing, do you happen to have them?)

Typically most crashes of otherwise fine rides happen due to a breakdown of some kind. The crash and breakdown then coexist separately. The breakdown has to be fixed by a mechanic because no broken down ride can be opened, then you have to toggle ride to reopen it because crashed rides do not reopen on their own.

Try setting security patrols in areas where vandalism occurs regularly, and figure out why guests are upset in the first place. Anyway, part of the challenge of the scenario is figuring out how to stop crashes.

>> No.8763776

>>8763721
You can point OpenRCT2 to your RCT1 install and it can load the scenarios. The scenario goals work properly, but the game will play mostly like RCT2. A few things to note: Interest rate in RCT1 was 1.33% which is not possible in RCT2 so interest rates will be 1%. The randomized available/researched rides lists do not seem to work. Charging for both park entry and rides DOES work. RCT2 features like block brakes and guests not getting brain damage from double-wide paths will be available during gameplay. Queue line TV which I'm pretty sure was only in RCT2 will be available for some reason even though it shouldn't be selected in the scenery lists.

2 cannot even have paid entry and paid rides at the same time, OpenRCT re-enables this feature from RCT1. The algorithm for the price difference from paid entry isn't different from RCT1 (guests only pay about 1/4 of normal ride price if park entry is not free), what's being run into is that RCT1 had significantly different price scaling for new rides than ORCT2 has. There's a way to build the ORCT2 program to use the original RCT1 ride price scaling iirc if you really need it.

oh okay, damn never knew of that hidden mechanic, how do I make it work exactly like RCT1 price scaling? I mean im not losing or doing poorly, I honestly thought something was up because I watched some coaster videos on intensity and pricing and they were like +2-+3 on top of its excitement for payment where my coasters, a good one, taps out at like 2.5-3$ which now makes total sense if its 1/4.

Its only really affected super basic tiny stuff like the Ferris wheel or haunted house.

guests are a hell of a lot pickier in RCT2. The game was originally made in a way where you could price park entry OR rides, but never both. That restriction has been removed but the guests are still "accustomed" to it.

>> No.8766228

>>8766206
>but the guests are still "accustomed" to it.
They mechanically have the same change they do in RCT1 when you do that. There's no magical game accostomedness stat, they will choose not to ride if you charge park entry and the ride does not cost 1/4 or less of what they would normally pay for it. The only difference in this is that guests will get to the rides a little better due to pathing change, and that the scaling of how much a new ride is worth to guests is different than RCT1, which has nothing to do with the mechanics of charging for park entry but instead is just a difference in the base price of the ride.

Bank your turns, guests are attracted by high park rating and more rides, taking out your entire loan and blowing it on a huge coaster at the start is usually a bad move, marketing campaigns pull guests at an amazing rate, setting your ride's price to its excitement rating is usually a safe bet but not the best and too expensive for a few flat rides, don't spend too long tweaking one coaster to get it just right, don't stress about the time limit so much that you can't take some time to make things look a bit nicer, don't be afraid to pause a lot if you are worried about the time limit, and bank your turns. Have fun!

>how to get more people
Rides attract an amount of people over time to your park depending on the ride type (and nothing else about it). Merry-go-rounds attract 40 guests. Most rollercoasters are around 100. Micro-coasters are therefore the way you cheese the game, but that's completely unenjoyable, nobody does that unless you hate the scenario. Forbidding micro-coasters, you can see that non-coaster rides are generally the time- and cost-effective way to increase guests. The rollercoasters then are the best ways to make sure the guests are happy and gets the highest amount of income out of guests, as well as increasing the Park Value stat for scenarios that care.

RCT2 overall blows RCT1 away.

RCT1 has a WAY fucking better set of Scenarios. In just more freeform or fanmade stuff, rct2 is pretty king, but RCT1 has way better pacing in scenarios. Just remember, RCT2 has only park fee or ride fee for scenarios, RCT1 has both generally, if you have both a park fee and ride fees, slash all ride fees by like 3/4ths. If you make the park free you can charge the highest guests are willing the pay for your ride.

>> No.8768463

>>8768460
I thought it was some function of the total value of rides in your park and your park entrance fee. It's got near-Twister track piece availability (banked sloped turns, vertical track and twisting, loops, corkscrews, in-line twists and quarter-loop top pieces), powered launch is just a great operating mode, and it has exclusive use of block-sectioned powered launch, which gets multiple trains on the track unlike the others. I also love that the track itself is very minimalistic for such a flexible coaster; I actually don't like how bulky some coasters are. I love building LIM launched coasters.

It has one major suck point, which is that it attracts ridiculously few guests compared to any other coaster you'd consider high-end. 55 guests-attracted makes no sense at all and is in the realm of a transport ride. Even basic, ancient coaster types usually pull 100.

Their high exc/int ratio and large train make them the ideal cash cows in the game.
Also, real-life hyper-twisters are comfy as fuck

Guests still drown in the new tile if you elevate the land past water surface if they were already drowning. Unless that's a hilarious custom scenery, in which case, I want it.
