8741331 No.8741331 [Reply] [Original]

I did some texture dumping and basic datamining of the NTSC Game Cube and Wii versions of Resident Evil and I found some stuff that isn't documented on TCRF or anywhere else as far as I can see. I'm going to go ahead and dump them here, as I'm not the type to bother editing a Wiki or making a video or something.

Starting with this one, seems to be an early or unused texture for Barry as it only dumps in Dolphin as soon as Barry is loaded. Seems to be the original photo of the model they based his face on.

I can believe that. They also cut the Hunter decapitation that the trailers showed. Maybe Nintendo was squeamish about making it too graphic.

From the Wii Version there is this unused character select screen mockup. Since it's just a static image it's either a mockup or would of had some kind of selector texture switching between the two. It's kind of neat because it looks like Chris and Jill are wearing standard police uniforms in their ID photos.

>>8741440
Thanks. I just hope someone sees this and adds it to TCRF or otherwise archives it. I pulled these out of the game about a year ago and I only just started looking at the Wii Version. Since the Wii version is an actual port and it has a larger file size I think there may be more stuff leftover from the game's source files in the final ISO to mine out of it, like this character select. If I have some free time soon I'd really like to do a serious data mine because this is all just from running around with cheats on to dump all the textures and browsing whatever .tpl texture files I can find out in the open of ISO's file directories.

if you want I'll post them on TCRF but only if you tell me how you extracted them. Unlike half of the retards there I only post things I have verified myself.

This is the issue with the RE community. All this stuff has probably be known for 20 years except the community is still scattered among small forums like it was still 2002, with content locked behind registration, and everybody is too busy putting their watermarks on content rather than to centralize and post everything properly.

All of them were found using Dolphin's texture dumping feature, except for the Wii version's unused character select in which I dumped the ISO files useing Dolphin's file directory browser and pulled it out of a loose .tpl file using Brawlbox.

I'd like to go over it more thourougly and systematically at some point, I also have the Japanese trial ISO to go through. I think there's a lot to find, especially in the wii version.

Didn't CERO put a stop to decapitations in Japanese games? IIRC Dr. Salvador can cut off your head in the American and European releases of Resident Evil 4, but he can't in the Japanese versions.

>> No.8742665

CERO didn't exist when REmake came out. And you can still decapitate enemies. It's such a weird thing to cut because it's probably the most iconic death scene from RE1.

I don't know much about the development of Zero. Did it go through major changes? I've read that REmake was practically a 1:1 copy of RE1 up until fairly late in development which might explain things like the discarded character select screen being a carbon copy of the original.
