Are there any good Russian retro games?
Are there any games even made by a company that isn't from america or japan before 2000?

I take it you are new to retro. The ZX Spectrum game scene was almost nothing but UK productions.

And this motherfucker of a game right here, which if you were old enough to recognise you would throw yourself on your knees from shame right now.

And most of everything on C64, Amiga, ST was from UK/Europe.

As for Russia, they had their own arcade games.

Germany and France were pretty productive during the 90's as well, with companies like Blue Byte (The Settlers), Cryo (Commander Blood, KGB) or Silmarils (Ishar series, Robinson's Requiem).

Also, Ubisoft.

Maybe it had a certain resistance to pull back a thing with a marker. Maybe then the counter determined on how far back a marker in the machine went?
Like, if you puled that thing all the way to the back you got a full score because the machine detected that the marker was at its extent?

I don't know, I'm no engineer.

Maybe it's based on air pressure. Like imagine there's a piston with an air pocket inside it. Pulling on the piston causes the air pocket to gain volume and lose pressure, and like a vacuum it wants to pull the piston back to its resting state.

Remedy released Death Rally in '96 and started developing Max Payne shortly after (and released in 2001).

Finland had also a very active independent/demo-scene that produced titles like Assault Trooper, Liero, Tapan Kaikki, UnReal World and Alien Phobia (which was later homaged Crimsonland).

If you read about the struggles Pajitnov went through related to Tetris, you'd understand why there were no real internationally-released games during communism. Even after that, I don't know how long it took for the software industry there to recover. It's interesting, though, there's an incredible culture of optimized programming there, probably from having to live with outdated hardware like the Spectrum for so long.

Also, Zooming Secretary (which is new, but for the NES) was written by Russians.

You serious OP?I'm not even that aware of many non-US companies, but Croteam is an obvious one, making Serious Sam since late 90's. There's also fuckin' Rareware, British since at least the 80s. And even if you don't care about those, surely you know about games like Tetris, aka THE Russian game.

I hear that, some people need to chill out. He's still right about Rare and other UK devs. People surely aren't this unaware, are they?

Also out of curiosity (and thread related), are there any major Pinball manufacturers outside of the US? All I ever hear or see are Williams, Bally, Gottlieb, Stern, etc. Not looking for Pachinko either, for the record.

German fashion was pretty bad in the 80's and 90's.

So of course some C64 geek looked way below regular german fashion back then.

But dude was a fucking virtuoso. There was an interesting article about the development of Turrican in the german Retro Gamer mag a while ago. So all germanfags interested can look into it.
