Why doesn't anyone make 4:3 monitors bigger than 19" anymore? You'd think with all the people into retro gaming now there'd be a market for bigger 4:3 screens.

I use a 30" 16:10 monitor as my desktop monitor. It is 26.5" as a 4:3 monitor.

>> No.8730645

I get why someone might want a CRT for retro gaming, but why would you need a flat modern monitor in 4:3? Does it bother you to see black bars on the sides?

it bothers me. hated black bars ever since i played FEAR on my first 1920x1080 monitor.

If it really bothers you build a little wooden case and a bezel to mask the blacked out parts.

>> No.8730665

>>8730660
better yet, why dont you just take a sharpie and black out everything on the top and bottom of your glasses?
it really adds to the cinematic experience.

>> No.8730736

Because there's no market for it. Thankfully, these days you can get 43" 4k screens for not a lot more than you'd pay for a few 24" 1080p screens in an array, and 43" 16:9 is a 35" 4:3 monitor. Just ignore the black bars.

Marketing 101. Your panel has to be custom made from screensize to controller hardware since all panels are widescreen these days. If your monitor fails to deliver on the best monitor for retro premise, customers will buy cheaper widescreen monitors instead.

A person would do this with the sole intent of saying how its somehow designed for it and a better experience.

They're like vegans. They don't actually care about the thing. They are so devoid of personality these are the types of things what they latch onto and have to tell everyone else to do the thing they're doing as a means to validate their stupid fucking decision

It would be really cool if they made a 30+ inch OLED in 4:3. That’s more feasible than bringing CRTs back and shaders would look perfect on them.
Never gonna happen though, at least extremely unlikely.
OLED TVs are slowly coming down in price at least. How long does LG have the patent for?

I have the IPS model, it's good but it gets hot, there's some trails when dark pixels move, strong IPS purple glow, the black levels and contrast is better than modern Dell panels, color gamut is not good but there's no dithering or banding. I wouldn't use it for retro gaming, there's some funny business when using the VGA cable, the input has less lag but the picture is darker.

I actually wish the industry would move back to 16:10, or at the very least, 19:10 like real 4k (4096x2160)

but retro wise, if I want 4:3 I'll just stick to a CRT honestly

>You'd think with all the people into retro gaming now there'd be a market for bigger 4:3 screens.
And you think this market overlaps so much with people who can't just play a windowed 4:3 on their normal monitor? You think that is such a huge market that they will open an entire new manafacturing line and take away resources being used to make monitors that are actually selling regularly?
Let me guess, you also don't know why they don't just make CRTs again, don't you?

>> No.8732898

>>8732843
Exactly, why don’t they just make some CRT in china or pakistan. The technology is there, probably would be a lot cheaper than 40 years ago. This just doesn’t make any sense. And dont tell me the market is small. They did things that were bought by literally several people ie. Exotic cars. CRT would be bought by hundreds of thousands retro enthusiasts around the world

>CRT would be bought by hundreds of thousands retro enthusiasts around the world
There are tens of thousands at best, and of those 99% are happy using LCDs, 1% want CRTs, and 1% of those want overpriced new CRTs when you can just get old ones for next to nothing.
