Am I the only arachnophobe who found the spiders in the Resident Evil remake completely disappointing as enemies?

>go into room
>spiders spawn now
>"Damn, that's a fucking big spider, what does he do?"
>as it turns out, not much at all
>even getting into closer range they don't exactly hurry to you
>point shotgun down, BOOM
>"That's it?"
>realize that I don't even need to use a shotgun shell, I can comfortable use a few pistol shots from a distance and they can't do shit, BANG BANG
These monster spiders suck, why can I safely dispose of them from a distance at my leisure? Are they meaner in the original game or Director's Cut? I never got around to play those.

They should have been aggressive and fast, not lethargic and unresponsive, this is supposed to be horror.

They're much more aggressive in the original game. They're surprisingly fast and like to stand on their hind legs and chase you and I don't think they have a windup on their spit attack. They're also fucking tanks and take 3 magnum rounds or 5 point blank shotgun shells to kill.

They're even less threatening in the original RE2, can literally just run past all of them.

They never where a threat since they appear in big areas where you can outrun them, now that I think about it they only appear in one room, where the billar is.

I think that's because they can poison you. I always ran past them as well. It's funny, because I typically go out of my way to kill everything too

I think the major mistake that many people make when adding spider enemies in games is making them move slowly. A spider isn't scary when having a leisure crawl around the place, but when they start bolting you're gonna shit bricks.
Like the Rayman 2 spiders for example.

Did RE2make remove the spiders?

I like the one that runs along the wall towards the camera in that little passage under the kennel in Leon's scenario. He's trying his best to spook you even though he's completely harmless.

That sounds much more appropriate to me. I like ReMake a lot, but the old game is apparently different here and there, and it has its own aesthetic and style (ReMake has the air of a good high budget horror movie, while the original has the air of a suprisingly good b horror movie).
Is Deadly Silemce a good port?

>>8715998
Yeah, if he's just sitting there on the wall, that's just mildly uncomfortable, play on the arachnophobia with all the fast moving legs, make them actually vicious to fight.

Not him, but yes. I think it's the best way to play RE IMO. It makes a lot of cool improvements, but the game is a little easier because of it.

Deadly Silence is OK if you play it on an actual DS, but otherwise the patched PC version is probably your best bet if you've never played it before. If it turns out you really like it you can always emulate the Director's Cut for the Arranged mode afterwards.

Can the PC version be run in some sort of port or is otherwise not bothersome to set up?

Try it Anon, you might be surprised. It's basically tied with the PS version for me. The only reason why the DS version has a little bit of preference, is because of all the bonus stuff in DS

>> No.8716391

As enemies they’re not a threat at all but that little cutscene where one crawls across the ceiling and down the wall when you enter the room is probably the scariest thing in the game if you’re spooked by spiders

>> No.8716479

Spiders have never, ever been threatening enemies in the games. And for the Anon who claimed it was even easier in RE2, you can run away from them in the first game as well. And the rest of them as well, because they are just never threatening enemies.

Spiders aren't your enemy. They just want to be left alone to snack on giant moths and the occasional Umbrella researcher. And is that really such a crime?
