Nah, he's a fucking jackass but he's still manages to be cool as portrayed in the story. The flashback scenes are really entertaining and build him up nicely

I'm sure a handful of people do as do it before he went nuts.
Years later I realized he just ends up became the typical human corrupted by lust for God-like power which made him and his motivation boring, but he always gets a pass for having a cool design. I appreciate his characterization much more in Dissidia since you get to see a little more of how much of a bully he is to Cloud while also seeing Cloud autisticlly try and defend himself.

they don't spend enough time discussing his motivation for deciding to blow up the universe or whatever his goal is. in fact, we have no idea what his goal is, just that's mad about finding out he's a jenova clone or whatever.

He gives up everything he was doing the instant he learns out how he was made, and I think that's kind of cheap honestly. Some kind of real instigating factor should have been required for him to drop his entire life, ambitions, goals and anything else he had going for him to suddenly pursue an evil space monster crusade. He already knew he was basically artificially created, so learning the truth should have been a blow he could take, a rough spot that he gets past because he's supposed to be rational.

Maybe a controversial opinion but Sephiroth existing really ruins FF7's story imho. The story starts out setting up this big environmentalism theme about greed destroying the planet and the characters existing in something of a moral grey area, but that all goes out the window for your typical animu bad guy plotline once Sephiroth is introduced. I don't think the whole Sephiroth actually being Jenova thing really helps either, since that plot point is pretty unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Cloud having his mental breakdown over his false identity isn't really made better by constantly seeing Sephiroth in action any more than seeing Zack in later release improved that element of the story.

In FF7 there are two threats to the planet. Jenova an ancient extra-terrestial evil virrus that nearly destroyed the planet thousands of years ago, and humans that are ruining the planet now with their sucking the life stream dry to power their cities. Sephiroth is the ultimate synthesis of both, an artificial Jenova created by Shinra with the mind and cruelty of a human. He is the ultimate predator of the planet. That's how he fits into the story.

from what we see up until he loses his mind he seems chill and just wants to have friends that are on his level. Pretty sure that once he comes in to contact with Genova's remains he's no longer himself, he got brainfucked or something of the sort and what we fight later in the game is just a vestige in his form and not the original.
Whatever he is after getting stabbed by Cloud in the reactor he isn't the original entity.

I have a theory that Tifa's father is Cloud's dad and Cloud's mom is also Tifa's mother. Think about it, there is nothing in any part of the game or even any spin-off media that contradicts this. It also gives that "under the highwind" scene some extra flavor.
