I've done a cursory examination of the Enter the Gecko script.

The English dub has ~470 sound files. The American dub has ~900 files. And the Japanese dub has ~260 files.

What's interesting is that all 3 dubs are present on the Japanese version, in the same way that both the English and American dub are found on the American version. I wonder if they had space limitations because of it? The American bigfile.dat has 4684 files, while the Japanese one has 4956 files.

For anyone curious, Psound opens them but they seem truncated, the first 469 files are UK, up to 733 is JP, and up to 1641 is US. Everything after that seems to just be sound effects.

In terms of the humor, the Japanese version is a reasonable match, mainly pun based, occasionally referential but my knowledge of dubbed Japanese movies is pretty low. Without any good way to map each file 1:1 with where its alternate version plays in the game, and with no real desire to play through the game 3 times, I can't really draw any conclusions on if any of the lines are actually translated, but I'd guess that it's mostly a rewrite from the few lines I sampled.

At this point, I believe so.
The most popular American cartoons in Japan during this era were girl ones like Powerpuff Girls and Teenage Robot, I'm seeing old vidya series I like starting to lean too much on eye candy, even boomer legacy Japanese media like Ultrama come to a point where they desperately try to appeal to otaku bucks by turning things into cute girls.

Would anyone who hasn't played it even call it a walking simulator? You'd have to be pretty knowledgeable about the game and its design to make that claim since it isn't common.
Face it, you got legitimately upset because someone has an opinion about a video game and are now in denial that such an opinion could even be real. Now that's sad.

Thanks. I guess it wasn't worth the effort to continue it as Magical Hoppers? It has all the Reboot inspired CG cutscenes from the US game this time.

It's the same basic art as the US version but the box orientation and composition makes it look nicer. Feels like a banner or scroll that would be hanging at the actual tournament.

Does this mean Namco-Bandai owns the Magical Hoppers brand. It's a shame that they didn't make a part two. But maybe the first one didn't do well enough for the redesigns and animation? I wonder how well Miracle Jumpers sold? Was the original Pandemonium 2 art style received well?

In any case, I’d take that over the shit we get in the west now. There’s a sudden obsession among western artists with making all characters fat, sexually & ethnically ambiguous, disgusting blobs. Though it hasn’t penetrated much into games aside from garbage mobile games.

This isn’t a retro game so I’ll keep it short, but if you’ve played Hades before I consider that an example of art done very well, and most of the characters have dark skin. My gripe is with the style, not (generally) with the substance. Excluding tumblr brainlets, I would wager that most people of all races dislike the “deliberately hideous amorphous blob” style.
