SA2 has an eighth of the aesthetic as the original. SA2 zoomers are useless.
They went all out for SA on Dreamcast. IIRC the artists actually took trips to the Mayan City of Tikal, Chichen Itza, Cancún and more to really capture that feel only the first SA has. The whole island/water/jungle theme that is “aesthetic” now is because of the resources and passion they pumped into it. SA2 wishes it was SA1. It’s not a bad game but it’s unquestionably less aesthetic than SA1. Guess it isn’t a “2000’s” game though.

Hmm, it is a 90’s game by period, but stylistically I would say it’s “y2k”. The period between ‘98-‘02 had this positive, clean, and bubbly look that goes away sometime after 9/11, and SA falls into this very niche category.
It’s all very autistic but if you lived through it you know what I mean.

Shenmue is the ultimate 'you had to be there' title. It's simultaneously a depiction of 1980's Japan, but at the time it felt like it was filtered through a late 90's/early 00's webcam. It gave people a sense that events could be read as history, or as a banal slice-of-life read-out, or eventually even as a future document (or artistic abstraction). It inhabits past, present and future without demarcating them. Whenever you played it, it had the capacity to trigger any one of those associations without telling you very much about how to perceive its tone. Although it bored a lot of people, it was still the ultimate conversation-starter of that era.

It's really sad how some people are unironically giving examples for OP when it's just another Adventurecuck Sonic thread. Kinda annoying that's all these retards ever talk about.

To the anons that are actually posting content, what about your games do you think make them so great to you?

Pic related is one of the my favorite examples of "whimsy" that most games today completely lack, or at best, seem to be done in a way that's different, like Klonoa or Kirby. Rayman 3, and Rayman 1 I should add, are just games that to me, no one ever seem to create before, Completely unique, completely charming through and through, and everything about it comes together unlike many games that only gets shilled for the parts that do nothing as a video game medium. Like, those examples could be animes or comics and would be better than a game, while I can't think of anything else Rayman fits in best as a video game icon.

Too bad Jewbisoft cucked him for gay Rabbids.

Radirgy for the Dreamcast. It came out in 2006 and a Gamecube localization was supposed to come out in 2007 but it was cancelled and dropped in a shmup compilation on the Wii later I think.

Shadow the Hedgehog is what happens when you get a competent director and then hand him a team of incompetent retard developers and run the final product through Google Translate.
Many such products in the early 2000s, Shadow is just much more notable for being very high profile.
Everything about it should have been at least enjoyable - over the top anime bullshit story, all the sonic characters coming back, Sonic Adventure 2 gameplay with beat em up controls, arcadey shooting, and vehicles, the huge branching path with unique weapon unlocks, an entirely new voice acting team brought over from the anime dub team which had actual budget... and it all fucking sucks.
Wonderful game, can't recommend highly enough. Also, the music consistently gave me bouts of insomnia as a child, so that's a plus.

the 3D sonic games from adventure to 06 are the definition of "B" games in the same way you would have B movies. by every reasonable design standard the games offend, but there is something tangible about them that makes them still fun to play. they are unquestionably proof that games are art in a world that frequently demands software.
