Don't mind me, just being the best pre-1999 game ever made.

starcraft was only a great game for people who were into starcraft as a hobby. For anyone else the game didn't matter.

Play with bots. Also, find which race you're the best at. The bots would always demolish me when i played as terran or zerg, but when i decided to try protoss, I won within 10 minutes

only problem with playing with bots is you can always win by just turtling the shit out of your base with turrets etc, and building an unbeatable stack of battlecruisers/carriers.

>> No.867460

I was always a fan of the highly risky but thoroughly demoralizing "double base speed nuke" tactic. If you can manage to dropship in two cloaked ghosts behind enemy minerals and obliterate their CC and economy, they're gonna have a bad time. Even if they have more than one base, they'll get thrown into chaos.

>> No.867472

>>867458
I used to 2v6 insane with my buddy all the time. It was fun to turtle with terrans. We would start by pecking and luring workers to their deaths from two AI bases, then build junk walls to prepare for the onslaught from the other 4 AI. It was a lot of fun, but it never was all that difficult.

>> No.867473

>>867458
So dont use this strategy. Try to do hydralisk\ marine&medic\ zealot spam as early as you can.

Use cheap unit (usually mineral\gas gatherer) and scout map for enemy location.

You do realize that AI players don't actually rely on workers for economy? This has been true of every blizzard game since Warcraft 1, if you cheat away fog of war and observe the rate AI depletes it's resource nodes they only go down by 1 per trip no matter what. In Warcraft games tress don't even get consumed by AI workers unless they are being directly observed.

They just have timed build lists.

>> No.870495

>>869952
In StarCraft, if you rush in at the very start and use one of your workers to attack an AI worker, ALL of that enemy's workers will swarm you. If you run your worker back to your base or an ally's base, ALL of the workers will follow you and be slaughtered, leaving them unable to build anything. The AI will have to waste time making more workers, and their build list will be disrupted for an extended period.

Starcraft was one of my childhood games. I spent countless hours playing it and making custom scenarios for it.
When my dad, my brothers and I would play SC together we had so much fun... I used to make UMS scenarios for us to play on. Loads of fun! I was even making campaign missions as well (lost a lot of data and had to start from scratch). Now my family has sort of broken up and my eldest brother who used to organise the games and get us off our asses has moved away and shifted his focus to SC2. I miss the old days.

>pic related. It's one of my SP missions. I made a bunch of really fun, script oriented missions and lost them all except for one unfinished WIP... trying to rebuild them all slowly is really painful. I know it'll never be the same.

I wasted a ton of time making a full 10 mission campaign that had branching effects that carried over to the next mission. Keeping your heroes alive would start you off with their retinue next map, there were optional objectives that would change up the enemy's positions and extent (destroying a certain number of enemy reinforcements in a map would cause the enemy to have less troops in later ones), and other bits like how fast you finished the previous map controlling how long you had to finish the installation mission that followed it. I only finished 7/10 of the maps, and my friends hated single player, so no one ever got to play them, however...

It's a shame too, they're lost to the annuals of history since I didn't back them up after formatting in 2003.

Ouch... Mine were never that complex, I admit, but it's never nice losing stuff like that.
I lost 90% of the stuff I made for my blizzard games as a kid and I wish so badly I could have them back, to explore the stuff I made back then... I can still remember some of them, but the memories fade.
I do still have a couple of good ones left. Most of them are zero fun to play properly, unfortunately (I was a cheating shit back then all day, every day), but there are a couple which manage both to make me laugh at their ridiculousness and have fun with them.

Some of those reasons are legitimate, but most of them are apples and oranges and don't demonstrate better mechanics, just different ones. Starcraft with longer attack ranges, for instance, would suck. As it sucks with money maps e.g. "lel TA has unlimited resources."

go and update your journal

I just re-bought the Battle Chest straight from Blizzard since they apparently still stock those. Lost my copies years ago.
I remember beating the game using cheats as a stupid kid because I was terrible at RTSs back then. I plan on finally beating the game legitimately and possibly playing other people for once.
Maybe I'll even get my friends to play because none of them really enjoyed Wings of Liberty
