Man, it's been too long. I never owned it but I used to trade/lend my sonic 2 to a friend who did(or Turbo Outrun I can't remember!)
My disappointment when I bought the sega PS2 collection only to find it was not the original but some shitty "updated" version.
I hear good things about Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast, not /vr/ but I'm on the lookout for it.

OR2006 is alright, but you really want the Japanese PS2 version (Outrun 2 SP). It fixed a lot of small issues, and added USB wheel support.

Saturn version. Played the shit out of that for years....

Outrun Cannonball, a modified arcade version
Runs at 60fps and 16:9

Has to be 2k6.
I never played the online re-release, but it seems I am not missing that much.
About the classics, cannonball just blew everything away.

I think you mean OutRun Enhanced Edition running on Cannonball.

I like OutRun 2 and it's various ports the most, but OutRun 2019 is pretty awesome. The multi-layered tracks are done really well, and the music is decent. What I really like though, is the constantly-charging near-uncontrollable rocket booster. It rewards you for driving smoothly, but you have to pay attention and make sure it doesn't kick in unexpectedly.

A shame it's not _technically_ an OutRun game at all.

That's why there wasn't an arcade version, it wasn't developed by Sega.
