Wave Race 64 is a masterpiece.

I was playing it earlier and completely agree. Love that game

And it was developed with that in mind, it's not some modern game that's supposed to run at 60fps but has constant chugging due to bad optimization and/or the user not having the required specs (if it's PC).
Nice way of outing you come from /v/ and aren't really from retro times, though.

Cope. Sega Rally on Saturn is a far better racer. I will give Wave Race some credit for its tracks that the tide would alter each lap.

Yeah, you belong on /v/.
Sega Rally on Saturn is really good though, yeah.

How the fuck did I grow up with this shit and had no idea I was playing in slow motion?

I could beleive I played Sonic 2 the way I did back in the day.

It deserves a decomp with a pc port.

I've been playing it since I first got it in 1997, want to get an NTSC N64 to play it like the devs intended but the logistics and cost are prohibitive.

To me, this always felt like nintendos answer to all to sega early 3d racing games. Sega Rally, Daytona, i thing theres a waterskiing one, virtua racing. Just the look of it with the bluw water and the red and yellow circles to slalom through screams sega to me. And I cant think of too many other times nintendo tried to be like sega. I love those sega games but yeah this game could never run on saturn was at least competitive woth their racing games if not better. The complexity of programming those waves was far greater than the traction in sega rally I would imagine

N64 era EAD was very similar to Sega's AM2 I think.
F-Zero X, Wave Race 64 and 1080 Snowboarding are all top tier racing games.

>> No.8670231

>>8670195
>FZerox, wave race, 1080 snowboarding
>top tier racing games
I'll say it again, none of them could even hold Saturn's Sega Rallys jockstrap. I'd argue they're not even racing games as they're not designed with gears in mind.

>>8670231
>it's the console warrior that tries to instigate a saturn VS n64 by mentioning Sega Rally
You're boring.
Also, anon said racing, not car racing. You do race in all these 3 games, just not with cars.

>> No.8670282

>>8669451
I thought the water grafics were amazing. It looked so real at the time to my kid eyes. It was a flashy game with the island theme and the glaring sun. It was extremely difficult to control the jetski and not go slamming into a wall at top speed. The 3D experience was pretty new to me at the time.

Wave race and Sega Rally are different enough that its not really an even comparison. They’re both great and I’d say there was room for both. Wave race is more about fighting the waves while in Sega Rally its all about fighting those turns, and yeah gears. But the cars handle so much differently than skidoos

>> No.8670449

>>8670231
Fzero was competing with wipeout, 1080 was competing with steep slope sliders (and winning). These games aren’t that similar to sega rally.

Thrn by your logic Shenmue and Shenmue 2 are racing games.

>> No.8671550

The racing is definitely great and the water physics are bare none best of the N64, but it's really the soundtrack that brings it all together and what people remember the most. It's pure utopia shit.

Maybe but I've never got that confirmed for sure, either way I want all the RGB mods too and those are only possible on the NTSC systems. It was already expensive a few years ago, a standard JP model was around 150€ now probably more.

I think so, yeah. Jet-skis allow for more tricks, including jumps and flips and stuff.
I would love to play the WR64 beta and see how these ships handled physics though.
