Zelda thread.

Best Zelda?
Worst Zelda?
Top-down or 3D?

Does LttP still hold up today? I never played it.

You probably should have framed it as "favorite and least favorite" instead of "best or worst". Tensions tend to run high in these threads.

Since my favorite is WW and thus isn't retro, I'll say it's a tossup between LttP and MM for favorite. Least favorite is probably Zelda II, and before people jump up my ass about it, it's a fine game and I don't hate it, it's just not for me.

Top-down or 3D, don't really care, both are fine.

Best Zelda is the Oracle series, worst Zelda is Zelda II, top-down is better than 3D (and side-scrolling).

All in my opinion, of course.

if you have a worst Zelda then you're no Zelda fan to me
they are all good, fun, and worth playing

There's always the CDi games. And 2 rubs some people the wrong way. I really should get around to playing it. It seems fun.

LttP
CDi
Top Down, but I don't have a problem with the 3D ones or Zelda 2 as a sidescroller

Favorite Zelda: The Legend of Zelda
Least Favorite Zelda: Majora's Mask
Top-down.

>> No.866105

Majora's Mask
Phantom Hourglass
3D (I like both just fine, its just my first Zelda was 3D)

>> No.866137

The Legend of Zelda
I don't dislike any that I've played yet, but The Adventure of Link was tedious
Top-down

>> No.866138

I like all of them from the /vr/ era, but 2 is by far my favorite.

I've never played Windwaker though, I suspect I would love it. I also have an imperfect memory of Link's Awakening but I'm sure I loved it.

Legend of Zelda
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Top-down, but I dearly love OoT and WW. Just not quite as much as LoZ or ALttP.

Best: Oracle of Ages/Seasons (Linked)
Worst: Phantom Hourglass

not sure. I like them both

Best - A Link to the Past or Link's Awakening
Worst - Wind Waker or Phantom Hourglass.

but it's a really shitty fucking game. I don't like windu waika either but it's certainly not the worst

>> No.866305

The only complaint any Zelda fan can have against Zelda II is that it doesn't play like a normal Zelda game, and that's it. The game itself has solid gameplay.

>> No.867154

The only Zeldas I like are OoT and MM, but these are a standalone chapters in all the series.

>> No.867248

Wind Waker
Minish Cap, not obectively the worst but the one I like the least
3D suits the concept better

>> No.867291

Best - Zelda 2 and Majora's Mask
Worst - The DS ones, Minish Cap, TP and SS

modern Zelda games are really terrible.

I don't think you can really determine the best of a franchise when that franchise spans both 2D and 3D. Both styles are similar, but still completely different beasts and it's very hard to compare them properly.

The best 2D Zelda is either Link's Awakening or Zelda 2.
The best 3D Zelda is probably OOT, but I prefer MM.
The worst is the CD-i ones, I don't think anyone is gonna argue this outside of the dipshits who think Zelda 2 is bad.

Also, as a whole both the 2D and 3D games are solid. Both have had excellent titles, and shitty titles. As far as personal preference goes, I would go with 3D because it allows for more variation in gameplay.

It would be a lot more fun if the combat was more Castlevania-esque, but you can only attack straightforward with enemies that jump all over the place.

Personal preference is difference than technical opinion.
I think OOT is overall a better game than MM, but I prefer MM because personal opinion.

Are you one of those people who cannot tell the difference?

>> No.867937

My favourite is LttP, but the one I think is technically the best (in terms of challenge, pacing, dungeon variety, mechanics) is OoT.

They all have their good points though. I streamed Twilight princess recently and I found it much more enjoyable than the last time (at launch, for the Wii) that I played through it.

I think TP suffered for being released at the end of the gamecube's life. If it had been released before WindWaker I think it wouldn't have taken as much flack as it did. Some of the dungeons are really uninspired though.

Did anyone else pick up Hyrule Historia? Thoughts? I was disappointed on how little space they devoted to Link's Awakening, but it's a lovely book regardless.

>> No.867957

>>867937
Hyrule Historia was pretty cool, but I thought they really went overboard with the amount of SS content.

>> No.867980

>>867957
Yeah, same. It kind of feels like they went for the low hanging fruit (they made it most recently, it was easiest to get content for) with it, but overall it's a great little piece of Zelda history.

Favourite Zelda dungeon anyone? I like too many, but since it's fresh in my memory I'm going to say Snowpeak Ruins in TP. I really like the non-standard setup of the dungeon, even if it (like TP in its entirety) is far too easy.

>> No.868087

>>867980
I forget which level it was, but the first level with a Gleeok in the original Zelda. Lots of bombable walls, which I loved to find, and a confrontation with a fucking dragon.
