Is it the "Defenitive Edition"? Im enjoying it quite a lot, but am I missing some content from other console versions?

>> No.8649308

its like an amalgam of content from playstation saturn, pc and powerslave ex.

far as i under its 95% the saturn levels, with the higher res pc sprites from powerslave, but they also added stuff like extended level geometry and designs that mix the best parts of the saturn and ps1 versions.

they also mixed up things like the spiders/scorps from both saturn and ps versions so it now has both enemies.

>>8649308

ill elaborate a bit on the differences

there is a level on the saturn that has a pretty sparce generic looking temple entrance and they instead used the geometry and design from the playstation version, but because the playstation version was constrained, they made the level bigger.

there is also instances where on the playstation version there is a wall blocking a view over water of a bridge, and the wall is now gone, similar to how the saturn version presents the level.

from what i gather there's incentive to replay levels on console because powerups later on allow you to retreive walled off powerups from earlier, there's a different enemy choice in the same levels between PC and console, but with the new release you have the metroidvania backtracking level designs from console but a toss up grab bag of enemies across the game

I don't know if I'd call it a definitive version its more of a remix. The stages are mostly based on the Saturn versions larger and more open stages with some additional bits from the PS1 version added in.

Cavern of Peril and Kilmaat Colony were completely different on the Saturn and PS1 so they included both with the PS1 versions being renamed to Well of Souls and Kilmaat Santuary.

Bomb Jumping from the Saturn in included which was absent on the PS1. Health and ammo pickups drop to the floor like the PS1 while on the Saturn they hovered in the air where you killed an enemy.

Collecting enough hidden Dolls unlocks Dolphin and then Eagle mode like in the PS1 version. On the Saturn they unlocked flight mode when starting a new game. On the US Saturn version they also unlocked the Death Tank mini game but its not included here and it was also absent on the PAL Saturn and PS1 versions.

PAL release also lacks the 3D Controller support which makes it so much worse to play because of it.

I hate it when Night Dive does this. Mixing the garbage N64 levels into the Forsaken remaster doesn't improve the game, it just bloated it.

Meh I'm ok with them adding a couple of extra stages. While this is now my preferred way to play the game I wish they also included straight ports of the Saturn and PS1 versions for the sake of preservation. I have Powerslave Ex which was a straight port of the PS1 version I just wish I had the same thing for the Saturn version. Maybe modders will be able to do that.

Is this game the Powerslave of video games?

Yes

I thought it was a cool remix, but its not the “definitive”. To me, thats the saturn version. Its like the opposite of Castlevania Symphony of the Night. The saturn versions on of the best games on that system and the psx version is a weaker version.

Are there any other Metroidvania-like FPSs out there? Can't think of anything other than Metroid Prime. Just finished Powerslave Exhumed and loved it.

Its pretty universally agreed that the Saturn version is the best.

Hot take: the recent remaster is actually the definitive version

Honestly If they could've, they should've recreate the levels separately from each version to make it "Definitive", but pretty good to me so far.
