japanese devs had finally figured out the ins and outs of the PS2 combined with all the game design knowledge they had come to learn over the years during the 6th gen. Then the 7th gen came and japs went retard because they didn't know how to program for the ps3 (nobody did desu) and by the time they did learn the 7th gen consoles, western devs had taken over and gaming was now forever western dominated and japanese devs had to follow suit to pretend to be as western as possible with their games.

only good games in this showcase are re4 and ninja gaiden. mid 2000s was one of the lowpoints for games. FPS genre killed by half-life 2 and it's 100s of imitators, japs double down on turbo sperg weebshit that's all flash over actual gameplay, the first "artistic" games start being made and jerked off. I played basically nothing but multiplayer games for a good 5 years because that was the only place where actual video games were still being made

Peek inspiration, mastery of their tools, perfect window with near total freedom of expression, lack of constant pressure from society to self censor or be super obligated to include list of checkmarks, long enough to have a good understanding of the consoles and unleash their full potential, perfect time for the industry to take more risks before it went too mainstream.
Everything lined up perfectly. Even multiplayers behaved differently.
It's like capeshit movies, it started fun, but then became too big, too formulaic and by the numbers, less risk taking, too much of it, nothing interesting, now it's peer pressured to act a certain way.
When shit starts to get too big that's when it starts to fall apart.
It's funny how the meme of vidya needing to evolve as a medium was just turn vidya more like movies, less interactive, easier, when vidya was evolving just fine doing its own thing, a collection of every medium into 1 big interactive package.
Even shit like mgs had a clear divide between cutscene/codec and gameplay, it wasn't that modern 'seamless' from cutscene to gameplay crap plaguing so many games, that hurts replayability.

I was so disappointed when I was playing Peace Walker and realized that MGS finally started doing QTE shit. It might sound stupid but I thought of cutscenes as a sort of "safe space" to cool off after the tense stealth gameplay

It was less 'no one could make games for the ps3' and more 'there was no market to sell to on the ps3'. The PS3 took a lond damn while to finally catch up, and the Japanese are retarded because they not once thought about muktiplatform development. That is the key reason the west overtook Japan, they weren't blinded by platform loyalty like them and made games for anything.

I would say it was less that and more when they got a taste of money. Money corrupts, it's even gotten to the Japanese. Western developers were fine when their projects made good profit, but once they tasted blood they wanted more of it.
